From Yao¡¯s post, I see that he is so poised and mature. Even though he did beat Shaq yesterday night, he didn¡¯t think he had become the #1 center in this league. This is not about being humble, but about being conscious and calm so that he can be more prepared for their next match-up. From Yao¡¯s altitude and self-consciousness, I see he has the potential to dominate in this league sooner or later.

that quote just doesnt sound right. if yao actually said he can take care of shaq on defense then i think he has a rude awakening coming to him the next time around.

shaq is bigger, stronger, faster, quicker, and more agile than yao. shaq also had some nice spin moves on yao too. he defended shaq as well as anyone in the league, but he certainly didn't do anything impressive. shaq got what he wanted when he wanted it. he only defended shaq well when shaq wasn't trying.

Thank you Xi-He for your excellent translation. And I can't agree more with you on Yao. I will definitely keep watching their game and looking forward to another Championship for Rockets in 3 years.

You know sometimes I questioned if Yao is too nice to be true, like pretending to be always gentle or something, like during the ESPN interview he said it was his teammate who made him confident, I was like yeah right... But after seeing his comment on SHAQ, wow, I have no word to say but shame on myself, he might not be the greatest but definitely the most honest man in the west civilization (sorry, cannot help using this word :D ).

So is Shaq who just have a big mouth and Steve, in his case, never says it's his fault, just like a kid.

So people, stop bashing and let kids play.

BTW, xihe_2002 did a good job translating there though I think it'd be a slightly better to interpret this way for Yao's last comment. "If he (Shaq) says never, then it's never, that is the truth."

I love Yao. He is a breath of fresh air in the league - a humble superstar.

Sun Tzu says: Know your opponents, know yourself, a hundred battles, a hundred wins.

It's not all about humbleness, it's about know where you are and where your opponents are, how your opponents think and what he's going to do then use those info to gain victory. Nice job Yao!

And TWO great translations ! Thanks guys !

I agree. I think he might said he thought he did a decent job on Shaq, but no way he'll ever say he took care of Shaq defensively, not this game anyway.

Shaq and Yao seem to have a interesting relationship
    Not unlike Hakeem and Shaq

I don't think Yao is as 'meek' and 'timid' as folx make him out to be
I think he is just defering and bidding his time

Only a few years away from speaking like Hakeem
in an accented version saying 'GIVE ME THE BALL!'

    I ain't worried about Yao
    I ain't worried about SF

This team is on the VERGE PEOPLE. . . LIVE WITH IT

Yao's comments in the reports is different from that on his homepage.

On his homepage, he admit that he CANNOT defend Shaq one on on.

    Here is my crappy translation:

In yesterday's game, I suddenly felt Shaq's attitude to the game, at least I think so. Shaq plays the game for fun, and his greatest joy isn't from the victory, but from the feeling of mastering the bastketball techniques in the game. For a simple example, at the beginning of the game, he didn't really attack under the basket by himself , and that was the reason that I didn't get any PF in the first half. Shaq actually coordinated with his teammates, acting as a passer. In a word, he was just playing to enjoy (not for the points). As you could see in the third period, Shaq was motivated (to win), and started to showed his real strength. For me, Foul is the only way to stop that. I had the same experience back in CBA, where I played to enjoy. Only when the game was important or someone embarassed me in the game, I would use the most efficient way to perform.
I am not trying to pretending to be a nice guy to praise Shaq behind him, it is a simple fact. (As you can expect,) Shaq will use his most powerful gadgets to play in next game (when we meet again). A last word, I have no way to defend him one-on-one, impossible. SO when he said never, that is never, as a matter of fact.

    Dear Diary,

Well, today I made Shaq my beeyotch. He is very good but I am better. I cannot believe he thinks he should start the All Star game over me. China, U.S., everywhere....this is my world! Ha Ha! (evil laugh)

I do not know why we only play well against good teams and play bad against Miami type teams. It is the only time that Steve and I play well at the same time. Well, he'll be gone by Monday anyway. I am a little sad because he is OK to me but I will also be happy if we get player who can pass! HA HA (evil laugh) I am glad Steve does not read Chinese. I hope no one translates this. Ha Ha! (evil laugh)

Well, I need sleep after fighting the meat wall for four quarters.
