FWIW players on pre arb salaries only get paid a prorated salary for every day they're in the majors, so he probably only made like $20,000 dollars. They do get a pretty solid roster bonus for being on the 40 man though. I bet Stassi literally doubled his earnings in the previous 5 years by staying in the majors for one whole season last year.
I never would have guessed there were this many guy off of that squad who are still in MLB...I'm going off of memory from last year, not sure if some of these guys are still in the bigs still or not: Villar Peacock Keuchel Grossman Fields Lyles Barnes Stassi Marwin Castro JD Altuve Norris
Man, is there anyway Luhnow can swing a mid season trade for Marwin? We need his clutch abilities, particularly in October. It shouldn’t take much to get him back.
With the exception of that exceptionally huge home run in the World Series, Marwin was horrid in the 2017 playoffs..
He currently has a .492 OPS. We should all remember Marwin fondly because he was an integral part of the team's first championship. At the same time, we need to not fall victim to this backwards-looking nostalgia. He was great in 2017 and very good last year for stretches (including the ALDS) - but... the Astros will be OK without Marwin Gonzalez, a very average MLB player.
I don’t care that he has a .492 ops for a mediocre franchise, plus that makes him even cheaper to trade for. Those numbers would certainly improve if Luhnow brought him home. He was very clutch throughout the 2017 playoffs including with the glove.
Amazing how one huge HR can affect one's memory 1-4 2 RBI 1-4 1-4 0-3 0-3 0-3 0-4 1-3 1-3 0-3 1-4 0-3 1-3 1 RBI (albeit one of the most meaningful HRs in Astros' history) 1-4 1 RBI 0-2 0-5 1-4 2-3 Slashed .180/.275/.295/.570
I know it is still somewhat early but Marwin is currently 4th to last in batting average. He regressed to his mean last year and its looking worse this year. We all love the guy but Luhnow isn't building a team on fan's fond feelings for players.
