This was done before G3 I. I think they have made some adjustments in G3. While Ricky Rubio is pointing fingers at other teammates for not buy in, he actually shares a lot of blame as you will see in video. In this game, that 3 he gave up was a hip check that rendered him non-existent on the play.

Can someone break down what was the adjustment Utah made? It looks like Snyder had the right idea, after all.

I have not seen the game again, but I think Gobert stays home protecting rim more than he comes out challenge Harden by meeting him above the restricted area.

I wouldn't call it a gimmick if the Bucks are able to execute it better and have it work. I think the Jazz just dont have the same faith in their coach to commit and they failed. Game 3 it seemed to work. The real question is how do we beat it if executed like the Bucks did?

Very good video. It is clear to me that Bucks did an excellent job and Utah is getting closer to mimicing it but they are going to lose before they are going to be able to properly adapt it. Unfortunately, I think we havent figured out how to effectively counter it. Even though, Harden's floater has improved I dont trust it in playoffs or in pressure situation. I think Harden should just learn to take jumper from free throw line every now and then to mix it up.

Good post. Executing the mid range shot will make him hit his stepback 3's and his floaters too. Harden has a good mid range shot. Although this certainly is important, I don't think Royce can stop Harden from taking him off the dribble. Gobert can block him, but the more James attacks the harder it will be for the Jazz to stop him from making layups, despite the non calls. Being more aggressive, even with foul trouble will lead to a higher 3 point shooting percentage in my humble opinion.

Why not mixed things up a bit to counter this Jazz defense by having CP3 or Rivers bring the ball up more often when paired with Harden? Have Harden playing off the ball a bit to shake things up. Yeah, we are winning, but it just seems too mechanical, which is what the Jazz wants. They do not want to see Harden fully flourishing.

Let's give them a look they don't expect.

More Royce O’Neal? I thought Gobert did a better job of sagging as well. Rockets will need to find a better way to counter this because GSW and Milwaukee can probably deploy this scheme with similar effectiveness (more Milwaukee than GSW).

I thought the Rockets countered this strategy pretty well by going super small actually. It’s just a matter of drilling it and practicing it. If we go 5 out, then Gobert / Bogut / Lopez will not be able to camp in the paint, no?

That defense is gimmicky as hell and can only work if you have really long and quick perimeter defenders like Jrue or Bledsoe. It's stupid for the Jazz to force themselves to play that way even if they don't have the personnel. Next round the Warriors are gonna play normal D and are gonna fare better than the Jazz.
