I upgraded to the new version of AIM and it messed everything up. Horrible horrible update. Stick with the old one. Bigger does not mean better. Just slower and more glitchy.

i think i found a solution to this osama virus thingy:

go to your control panel settings (which you can access through the start menu) and click on "Add or Remove Programs". from there, scroll through your list or programs until you come across a program called "buddylinks.net messenging integration" or something like that, and remove it.

if you're already on AIM, it might sign you off and your computer may freeze up for about a sec. after that, manually delete the "buddylinks.net" file folder from your "Program Files" folder. also, delete it from your start menu as well.

hopefully, that should do the trick. but just to be on the safe side, it might help to get ad-aware here. hope that helps.

If you do have it, you can either uninstall it or download a file called cwshredder that'll take care of trojans like this one and related ones. My friend did a search on wgutv (one of the names that appears on the osama website; another is buddylinks but that showed nothing) and they had the download on a computer security BBS. He said it works so, have fun.

I've been running into this at the office today.

I found absolutely nothing from any anti-virus company.

So does AdAware/SpyBot remove this for sure?

Funny never happened to me, oh ya that's right I'm running OS X.

No, you should all run out and buy a Mac.

Sing it with me now... "What the world needs now, is Oh eS Ten..."

Seriously, sorry you guys are getting viruses and stuff, that just sucks monkey balls.

So it looks like it's just a rather intrusive program.

WOW. I just found the STUPIDEST 'glitch' of all time with new AIM 5.5.

Their new invisible mode and message popup notification is useless and conflicting. I just tested the invisible mode for myself and realized I could repeatedly click it over and over and over again.

Well, within 15 seconds, 6 people IMED me saying things such as: 'STOP YOU MOTHER****ER' and 'STOP IT YOU *******'.

Their notification system (as well as DeadAIM) pops me up on their computer over and over and over and over again until I stop clicking invisible mode.

So what I learned is that this is a great tool for losers who crave attention.

btw, I crashed someone's computer because their memory was gretly impaired. :D

AOL tries to beat IM Osama game

    By Frank Barnako, CBS.MarketWatch.com
Last Update: 1:42 PM ET Feb. 12, 2004

WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- America Online has assigned its lawyers and technology team to figure out a way to thwart the developers of software from harvesting Instant Messenger users' e-mail addresses.

"Osama Found" is a file download whose terms and conditions asks Instant Messenger users' permission to modify their IM program and send advertising messages to their contacts and Buddy Lists.

"We feel that provision probably violates our ... terms of service agreement," said Andrew Weinstein, a spokesman for the AOL, part of Time Warner (TWX: news, chart, profile). "We are actively investigating legal options," as well as having tech people take a look to see what can be done.

Weinstein called the program, produced by PSD Tools LLC of Cambridge, Mass., "a particularly slimey form of adware." It is not a virus or a security leak, he said. Such programs are becoming a more frequent and serious problem on the Net, and Weinstein pointed out that an update to AOL's version 9.0 will automatically scan users' PCs for such programs.

The Instant Messenger Web site includes information about the game as well as instructions on how to remove it.
