So many spectacular names to chose from (either over hyped or way overpaid or flat out failures): Matt Maloney Scottie Pippen Kelvin Cato Tracy McGrady Stormile Swift Jeremy Lin Ryan Anderson Carmelo Anthony That would make a comical 8 man rotation team
The fact that Marquise Chriss wasn't cut as soon as he came over from PHX is still an angry burn where I'm concerned (cap hit be damned)... Couldn't play, had terrible attitude written all over his body language and seemed to have no desire to improve. The swift @$$-kicking administered by Serge Ibaka a few weeks back was straight karma, homey...
I think Eddie Griffin, because he was so gifted and his demise was so unusually sad. Being in the NBA just didn't sit on his shoulders, and it helped destroy him.
These NEWBS now have it so good. Oh they think they have it bad and have all the disrespect and Steven A Smith doesn't love us blah blah blah They didn't experience first round exits and top draft picks killing themselves
Scottie Pippen. No one was ever supposed to impact the Rockets as much as he was supposed to and sucked as much as he did. Carmelo, we all know there was a good chance he wasn't going to be that good after his tenure on the Knicks. And please, Eddie Griffin. He at least had a good two seasons. Y'all need to stop riding this kid down. Y'all act like he was a Royce White from the beginning. That didn't start until after his second season.
Eddie Griffin cost 3, count them, 3 round 1 picks. THAT is the context in which he failed to live up to expectations. He didn't just fail for a round one pick, he cost three. I don't see how anyone else could be considered Houston's biggest bust.
I feel like people are misunderstanding bust. A bust is player who is an absolute failure. It's a player that the fan base wants to erase from their memories and a decision that gets GM's, personnel, and scouts fired. Sampson, Lucas, Barkley, Yao, McGrady, Dwight, et al, probably did underachieve what their talent said they could achieve while as a Rocket, but none of them were actual busts. Pippen was definitely a disappointment, but that was a fading team and Pippen wear finally ate away at him after the Bulls 3 peat and the lockout. Maybe without Jordan's fire, he never maintained his intensity. But he was the same player with the Rockets and later in Portland. He was just never going to save a team, especially in a rushed locked out season. Plus Clyde was beloved, so Pippen was never going to be able to fill his shoes. Draft Bust: Eddie Griffin (via Sheldon Collins via Joel Pryzbilla). Yes, this is technically a trade, but it was a draft trade that was the culmination of the whole 2000-2001 draft process. Though without that fallout, the Rockets never get to draft Yao... Honorable mention: Bryce Drew. Free Agent Bust: Tie between Stromile Swift and Maurice Taylor. Trade Bust: Trading away Elvin Hayes for Jack Marin. Re-signing own player Busts: Kelvin Cato. Maloney was overpriced but it was still less than Francis and a few others. Cato was straight out robbery.
The championship trophies at Toyota Center are a bust, because they aren't the originals. The real trophies were stolen , last seen in Florida.
No clue. Rockets history spans 50+ years and nobody is paying me to take the time to research this crap. But I can’t see how anyone can top Royce White FFS.
