    truth?

    ;)

cause without contributions from the members....this becomes an even bigger burden for CLutch to afford to run...and he shouldn't have to.
With 15000 members, if at least 10% would donate regularly...we might someday get search back..(fat chance)

seriously..anyone who spends as much time here posting as you and I should donate as often as we can afford to...afterall..what else would we do while at work?

and Im not sucking up to the mods...they already know how I feel about them...:p

From what I saw, the guards were fighting through picks...I didn't really think they were being 'lazy'...

Granted, the guards did get beat (or were trailing) on several plays, but at that point it's up to the guys in the paint to shift over to contest easy layups...

It just didn't happen effectively last night. And the one time Yao contested a layup by TP, nobody shifted/recovered properly on Yao's man - giving TD an easy putback.

I think this ONE play got in Yao's head, and he didn't want to fully commit to contesting Gino's final layup...

Too many defensive breakdowns, i suppose...

no need to refresh my memory, i've seen the play multiple times...didn't see any lazy guard play, yao was late getting over...not to mention TD set a moving screen.

After watched the clip, I definitely would give credit to Gino.
He used Duncan's pick perfectly. Yao did help to alter the shot, but Gino just made a tough one.

There were several problems on that play.

First, the guard didn't put enough pressure on the ball handler (Parker?), he was waiting for the openning from either Gino, or Duncan.

Second, there was a communication problem between Yao and whoever guarding Ginobli. Yao should have either cut Gina's path, or stepped back, let Gino's defender go through on top. That was terrible communication between those two players.

Third, Gino's defender was too loose on the guy. No one was supposed to run that free when he was that close to the basket. You have to bump, hold, or grap the guy to disruppt his timing in those situation. That's how the NBA plays.

Of course, Duncan made an illegal pick, but hey, he is the MVP so he can get away with it.

Exactly, it was TD night. You have to let him focus on Tim Duncan and he did. So Yao did his job. TD Was a wussy in that game. He was afraid of Yao.

Mistake # 1 - Cat step through the 1st screen well (going b/w yao and TD), but on the 2nd screen he decided to go over the top of TD - trailing ginobili (taking himself out of the play when gino curled to the basket).

Mistake # 2 - Yao had his back to the ball - causing him to lose sight of the play, and reacting too late on the help.

Mistake # 3 - The ref failed to call Duncan on the illegal screen.

The basic problem with Manu's drive is the fact that the defender let him go to his left, his natural side. Defender should have forced him right. Manu is left handed and prefers to go to the left, that's why he strides the way that he does. It's all about getting himself in position to use his dominant hand. The defender had to have known that and should have taken away the left and forced him right. Then he has to throw up a junk shot and hope that it goes down. Instead, we are trying to figure out why Yao can't guard 2 bigs and a driving guard all at the same time. Stu...

That's an interesting website. Thanks ... But how come I saw this

    Net Production by Position

    PG -3.0
    SG 2.4
    SF -0.7
    PF -2.4
    C 8.5

Seems PG is not that much better than PF. Of course, you said guards, if we combine PG and SG, then they are doing better than SF + PF according to that site.

I'm not talking about net PER* number, I'm purely referring to defense and scoring. Opposing PFS are scoring 18.5 ppg against the Rockets. That's higher than any other position.

EDIT: even more impressive and relevant to the discussion is this article that I just saw today:

    http://www.82games.com/comm23.htm

According to this, going by effective FG%, the Rockets are 3rd in the league at defending against the Jumpshot:

Team Att. FG eFG Ast Blk Pts
    SAS 68% .339 .376 59% 5% 40.1
    IND 67% .353 .391 65% 4% 39.5
    HOU 73% .345 .392 73% 4% 44.2

    Accordingly, these kinds of contentions:

don't seem too valid when examined in light of the available statistical evidence.

Shaq is an lazy ass, his pick is more like an pretending. Big Z for obvious reason cant run. Yao's been doing his best to help out the team. Maybe he needs to learn how to conserve his energy, because his energy woth more points than his team-mate's.

Haha, your statistical evidence still does not answer why Rox's 3-point defense is in the middle of the league.

This is the most puzzling number. I thought SF was a top PG, we should at least be even with other teams in this category.
