    We now know that it was a steal for the Rockets. But it wasn’t like that at the time of the trade. There was much risk. it was a new experience for everyone involved, especially for Harden and the Rockets.

    Houston was betting a lot on a 6th man to be a franchise player. They gave up their current and immediate-future assets for a bench guy to start AND be the man.

    Harden went from bench player to starter and needed a lot to go his way to get to that point. Including the OKC’s reluctance to pay him max money and them choosing Ibaka over Harden.

    Houston was lucky that Harden paid dividends immediately. Harden was lucky OKC didn’t offer him what he wanted, otherwise he wouldn’t be the heralded player he is today.
