Maybe you guys are just going to the wrong restaurants. There are good and bad restaurants in every city. Sometimes the best known or most expensive restaurants may not be the best.
i think it mostly depends on mood, but possibly sichuan i like most. a close 2nd would be the uyghur muslim food from the northwest. 3rd would be northern chinese from the harbin region. overall as a city though, taipei is tops for me as far as chinese cooking goes
Live in NYC and lived in London. Both deserve in top 5, although I'd say NYC is better than London. I go to Tokyo often for work. Food is amazing, but it's not diverse. San Sebastian belongs on the top of this list.
I've been to 17 of those cities and of those 7-8 three or four times or so. I wouldn't be able to tell you if it is an overall good city or not. I'm sure all of them have many places that would blow your mind. I've only been to 3 Michelin star places though. One in Europe in Budapest and two in LA. Regardless most of those cities have great food lurking somewhere odds are.
ah, this explains it To create this index, we partnered with Resonance Consultancy, a global advisor on economic and tourism development. They measured the number of high-quality restaurants and culinary experiences from online channels (including Google, Facebook, Instagram, and TripAdvisor) in more than 200 cities to identify the world’s most delicious destinations.
Troll list. Missing touchstones for entire continents, like New Orleans, Mexico City and Lima, is a joke.
If you step back from this and look at the big picture, earth is still ahead of the other 7 planets and the dwarfs. Mars is still bring your own water and stuck in the dark ages.
London... LOL Vastly overrated. Their Indian food is elite but that is about it. There are a number of places in the USA better than London. Hell I can get better comfort food in Ireland than in London.
Tokyo is #1. Just so many options and their Michelin Star count lead keeps rising. Bummed that they left Houston off the list. I'd be interested to know their criteria. Seems like they just picked the most touristy destinations and ranked them. We all know Houston lacks the touristy traits that other cities have ... but the food choices are on point. Definitely top 25 worthy.
Germanic food is bland and monotonous. Tastes great when you wash it down with a cold one, I guess. A notch above British food tho.
Seeing Sao Paulo spelled San Paulo every time I open this thread really bothers me. Just wanted to share.
The best Indian food in the U.K. is in Scotland. The best Pakistani is a bit north of London. The problem with Indian food in London now is most of it is Bangladeshi. London is a great food city but I don’t think it is #1. Other than Japanese and a little Korean their east and southeast Asian flavors are often way off.
