The best Rocket of all time. 11 blocks, and 10 assists is just mind boggling by itself, along with 18 points and 16 rebounds is just incredible. He was just like a goal keeper around the basket.

ain't no one taking Hakeem down from his all-time blocks title.

Hakeem was the highest level player for his size, position. if you compare Hakeem to anyone less than the top-5/10 all-time greats, you should be checked into a mental institution.

i consider MJ to be the GOAT. and MJ, the fiercest competitor this game has ever seen, even after being drafted after Hakeem in the same draft class, gave Hakeem the props he deserves.

Yeah, that's true. Well, true depending on whether you ask Rockets scorekeepers or the League. Read about it here. Here's the relevant note on what may have actually been the third quadruple-double in NBA history:

Olajuwon was credited with 9 assists in the original box score. However, after Rockets officials reviewed the game tape and discovered what they believe was an uncredited assist in the first quarter, they revised the box score, crediting Olajuwon with 10 assists and the third quadruple-double in NBA history. NBA's director of operations, Rod Thorn, requested to review the tape. After reviewing the tape, the league disallowed Olajuwon's quadruple-double and announced that his original line—with 9 assists—is official.

Worth noting that that game happened on March 3, 1990. So, yeah, Hakeem didn't get the third quadruple-double, so he just came back three weeks later and did get it.

More fun facts about basketball's greatest "five-tool player" (see here):

Well, first of all, I just wanted to point out that Clyde missed a quadruple-double TWICE by tick of one stat in his career, once with the Blazers in '86 and once with the Rockets in '96. I think Clyde's greatness gets forgotten sometimes. We had both these guys together in Houston. TWICE. Geez, we were lucky.

    Ok, back to Hakeem:

Hakeem has come the closest of anyone to a quintuple double. March 10, 1987. 38-17-6-7-12.

There are 20 recorded instances of a 5x5. Only two players have done it more than once. Hakeem has 6 of those entries.

I don’t think there will ever be another player with Dreams overall all skill set. People tend to forget that he is 8th all time in steals. For a center that’s mind boggling. His shot blocking was on on a completely different level.

I honestly don’t know if Dream was more dominant on the offensive or the defensive end of the floor. His conditioning must have been out of this world.

He’s definitely the GOAT in my book.

That March 10, 1987 stat line is the best since Wilt. That’s insane.

I remember that Clyde game in '96. I watched it live on television. He was amazing, and very underrated at times. Clyde was still so smooth and effortless even near the end of his career. The one two Hakeem/ Clyde punch in '95 lead us to the back to back NBA championship along with the rest of the heroes of that team.

Don't forget Clyde's near Quad-Double, he was 1 assist shy. I think Hakeem took the last shot, a three pointer, and missed badly.

Wow. 29 years ago. That video is just amazing on so many levels.

For one, 29 years ago...Bill doing the play-by-play and Calvin doing the post-game interview of Hakeem. Calvin's crazy, amazing energy hasn't subsided in 29 years.

Also, check out some of Hakeem's outlet passes. One-handed, full court, would make top NFL quarterbacks and MLB outfielders envious.

    Here are some highlights:

3:00 - Hakeem blocks the ball. Otis Thorpe takes it himself the length of the court for the dunk. Otis looks like he could palm the Earth itself one-handing the dunk.
4:43 - Devastating block. Notice how Hakeem pivots like a precise robot right onto the guy and just erases his shot from existence.
7:49 - Calvin says they stole Hakeem's last quad. @Zboy
8:25 - "I think when you play to win, everything else takes care of itself." ~ Hakeem Olajuwon

I’m convinced that the Rockets beating the Knicks is a large reason why producers at ESPN hate us so much. They can’t be overtly biased against us—they don’t have that kind of power. So they show their disdain in all these passive aggressive ways. Ignoring big Rockets wins and covering positive Houston news stories only at the latest possible time allowable. The ad nauseum “Houston you have a problem” and eager Houston shitposting news stories. The cuts to commercial breaks during all our teams’ draft picks. Harden unfortunately is the latest target of their ire. Imagine how they’d cover him if he was in New York, or even a market like Denver. Basically, what they’re doing for Giannis they would be doing for him, and then some.

    Absolutely.

They NEVER mention the Rockets Championships. Now when they talk about previous champions, they talk about the Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, Pistons, Spurs. And not even once mention Dream and TWO BACK TO BACK Championships we won.

Seriously, how many people know Hakeem won the MVP?

It's not when you became a Rockets fan, it's when Clutch asked for the greatest Rockets fans to follow him to help him form a pure community of true Rockets.

Nowadays, you don't know why people joined Clutchfans. Not for the original reason.

It's a brotherhood formed by pure reasons.

There are fans here who think they Rockets in the 90s had no chance of beating the Jordan Bulls in the 90s.

But us pure fans who witnessed the 90s knew that we destroyed them and Dream dominated the Bulls, it was the worst matchup for them.
And we also know jordan played in 1995.

We have fans now who don't believe that was true.

I don't count those fans as Rockets fans.

those fans fall in the same boat as LOFs, TOFs, and enemies of the free world.
