You're going to regret that remark when one day Eddie leads the TDC in rebounding *and* 3 point field-goal percentage!!

That Jeff should he burnt at the stake. Why the heck did he waste all those time-outs early? Just so he can chew the fat with his All Star PG? Just because we only scored 16, 19, 17 in 3 qtrs is no reason to call them!

Comments like this are quickly turning me anti-Francis. Honestly, is Steve trying to prove a point? He is being quoted more and more often as saying "I'd take that shot again", "I'm gonna play my way", etc. Does he really think he's infallible? Does he never make a mistake in his mind? Confidence is nice, but if you can't and don't see your mistakes, you'll end up repeating them over and over again...

The best part of the quote came a little later, he said something to the effect, "I didn't want to make it a freethrow contest because we have trouble inbounding the ball and we probably would have turned it over."

Who's responsible for that area of the game, Steve? The point guard perhaps?

The TNT commentators, Christie and Fratello, made some really interesting comments about the Rockets in the course of the game:
    1. The Rockets don't have a true point guard. "They are trying get away with two shooting guards. Exactly."
    2. The Rockets don't pass well or shoot well.
    3. Francis looks like he is going for "degree of difficulty" and the coaches are trying to get him to stop double-clutching his lay ups.
    4. "They don't look like they have the right pieces."
    5. The Rockets offense looks labored, doesn't appear to be in sync.

Christie and Fratello are very knowledgeable NBA professionals, they know what they are talking about and they are right on target. Many of us have been posting the same comments for years.

If we can only get some folks out of fantasy land, so we can move forward.

    You are absolutely right.
Everyone makes mistakes, from Yao, Cat, .... Jeff ... Steve ....

The question is who learns from them?

Francis f*cked up. He needs to change and move on instead defending himself. It's ok to mess up, just learn from it please.

Steve's last shot was horrible, and could have definitely been handled differently. It's true that his teammates could have made some cuts, set some picks away from the ball etc. But the bottom line was Steve blew it on the last shot.

That aside, it's often not the point guard who's responsible for inbounding the ball. It depends on who's on the sideline, and what picks and motion they run on the floor in order to get the right person the ball in bounds. It usually has very little to do with the point guard.

You know, Francis needs to fire his acting coach. Seriously. When I read/hear these quotes, it just feels like the stereotypical guy *playing the role* of a tough guy. It's like he's trying to prove to us that he's "capable of taking the tough shots", that he has the balls to "carry the team", that "he's his own man"... in other words, all the great adjectives that have been used to describe the great players in this league.

The problem is that he thinks that's sufficient.

You don't "act" as a great player. You're not Wilt Chamberlain just because you sleep with 5000 women, and you're not Michael Jordan because you dunk with your tongue sticking out. You do whatever it takes to win games, and then the rest of the world will admire the natural attributes that are exhibited as you dominate the game.

Francis isn't trying to win games, he's trying to "dominate" them... he has it all backwards.

But it is the PG's job to free himself from his defender so he can receive the pass.

Steve is the absolute worst in the league at doing so, par none. He is worse than the slowest of the slow, MJ. When there are pressures, other Rockets always have to come back and help receiving the ball. Steve is terrible at making a fake, or running off screen or somehow separating himself from his defender. He would make 1 feeble attempt and give up, hoping someone else would receive the pass.

The PG always, I stress, always should be able to free himself to receive the ball, unless he is doubled team. Opponents never have to double team Steve to deny him the ball.

barkley likes them just fine...but he wants them to learn how to pass. i think barkley knows just as much as anyone how amazing francis and cat could be if they learned to give up the rock. both of them are so amazingly offensively talented, but they just can't seem to work with the idea of getting other people involved first.

There was no chance of that, as the C.T.C.F. ( Conspirators To Criticize the Franchise) had a man poised in the stands with an airgun, to blow the ball off course in the event that it would have been on-line. They are also the ones with mirrors and laser lights which they shine on Francis' eyes at key moments leading to passes to the other team, and there's an 'inside guy' ( can't name names) who shakes Steve's hand before each quarter and in the process greases so SF will turn the ball over. At night they have a man with a tape recording of "I am not a man unless I beat other men off the dribble...I am not a man unless I beat other men off the dribble...I am..." etc. in order to subliminally compel Steve into dribble fests against his will.

And I won't even get into the guys who kidnapped Francis on the night of the flight to Pheonix andthen had a voice simulation specialist call JVG and pretend that Francis was actually skipping a team flight so he could entertain himself.

It is important that people know this, and don't get sidetracked into actually looking at the actions Steve commits and assuming he bears some responsibility for them, or even more ridiculous, criticizing him for same.

I am in grave danger for speaking out on this, but I feel it's important. I have chosen you, RF4, because it is clear to me that you aren't falling for he whole 'blame the guy who commits the act' deception, but are placing the blame right where it should be; on everyone else.

Actually, he has made shots like these in the past. The problem with low percentage stuff like this is that he'll have more moments like last night, then moments when he becomes the hero. So you're going to see a lot more Francis-bashing threads than not.

Also, if Francis made a good decision(pass or a decent shot), no one would be criticizing him even if we didn't score. All any fan ask is that we get a good possession. That final one didn't even come close.
