Because Democrats want unabated illegal immigration to generate more votes for their party and Republican businesses want illegal immigration for cheaper labor, the problem will never be resolved until President Trump issues an executive order that charges businesses and housing/apartment owners heavy penalties (fines) for employing or sheltering all persons who have entered the U.S. illegally.

Something like $1,000 per month per illegal would do the trick.

Oh sure, charging people who have been defrauded sounds so nice.

Not the illegals -- they have no money anyway or they would not be here illegally. I suggest fining the people who profit from luring them here.

With no employment and no place to live, the illegals would return home on their own.

Illegal aliens should be paid $1000 a month for registering to vote.

If you want to solve illegal immigrants, you might want to start with supporting someone who doesn’t hire illegal immigrants.

Folks like you might want to consider doing this since it seems you folks are the only one proposing it.

I'm seeing reports of 103,492 people being arrested/stopped/taken into custody at the border in March 2019.

At what point does this level of emigration from other countries to the U.S. become a problem?

It becomes a problem when people in high levels of office use hammers to screw on bolts.

People are really being confused between illegal border crossings by Mexican Nationals and the current mass flow of migrants who PURPOSEFULLY SEEK BORDER PATROL CUSTODY at checkpoints to apply for asylum from Central America.

The former requires border security but we are at a record low for illegal crossings so it is no where near a "crisis"

The actual crisis that began around 2014, is the influx of asylum seekers from Central America. They do not cross illegally and voluntarily seek authorities at legal checkpoints.

Trump purely out of a desire to appear "tough" wants to solve an issue of people voluntarily giving themselves up with more security. It makes zero rational sense when you actually understand what is happening.

The choke point isn't security. The choke point is not having enough judges to hear their cases that the LAW requires.

Trump and propaganda arms like Fox News want to paint this crisis as a bunch of people crossing the border illegally therefore MOAR SECUITY!

Unfortunately hiring more immigration judges isn't a sexy "tough on border security" move. It's only just a pragmatic move that will genuinely solve problems but won't score political points for the Trump base. Trump is just making the issue exponentially worse as time moves forward and no new judges are assigned to hear these cases.

there's an article in the NY Times today that makes essentially the same points that you do here.

Funding humanitarian aid is a conspiracy now.

Just a reminder of how similar this is to Nazi rhetoric...

Here is an excerpt from Mein Kampf:

It's always has been about fear of "the other".

I'm still waiting for a solution that creates "Ellis Island" centers along the border that allows people to apply for residence legally and immediately gives them a tax ID number after a background check. They can then legally live/work in the US for a period of X years (3, 5, 7?) and then apply and be granted citizenship after those years as long as they don't commit felonies and pay their taxes. They also do not get to be granted citizenship or residence before any person that has previously legally applied.

At the point when politicians stop politicizing illegal immigration and legal immigration. And when people think rational and long about efficient solution. Panicky reaction and immediate must-do-something aren't going to solve anything.

I have two basic questions. Who benefit from illegal immigration and who pay for it?

The obvious most direct answers are the immigrants and the employers are those that benefit, and the tax payers pay for it (including the cost of immigration judges, border patrol, monitoring and so on).

It seems an efficient solution is a market based solution. Transfer the costs to those that directly benefits and away from tax payers. Penalize heavy and shut them down employers that hire illegal immigrants. Add new categories of migrant works (with path to residency and even citizenship) but the employers must take a significant ownership of costs including education, health, housing, path to residency and citizenship and so on. Now let the market decide who get hired legally.

I consider the above even a short term solution. Look out a few decades and you got a much much bigger problem when warming of the globe will force many more migrants moving north. At that point, it's not seeking a better life, it's seeking to be alive. What the heck are we going to do about that?

"My job as a mayor is to welcome people," she said. "I don't build walls. It's our job to welcome everyone into our city, ensure their safety, ensure that their families can thrive. And that is my job no matter where those people came from or how they got there."

Mexican government is willing to hire more judges for us? That's very nice of them actually.

You’re really hung up on the judges narrative. Nah, just let the sanctuary cities work their magic.

Because that's exactly what is happening. The surge is from Central American countries where the migrants are voluntarily going to check points to request asylum.

Either convince Congress to change the law where we are not required by law to hear asylum cases or hire more judges. Those are Trump's two options if he actually wants to solve problems and not use this situation as pure propaganda.
