I bought a bunch of xbox games lately (Max Payne 2, Dark Alliance 2, GTA Vice City) but the thing about it is you shell out $50 but then the games can be beaten real quick, and some like Max Payne 2, while a good game have no replay value. I'm too lazy to mod the thing though... anyway I buy Morrowind the Elder Scrolls since it was cheap and it looks like it would take forever to beat. So I put it in and try to get started. Man! It's too complicated. I don't really have the patience to go through the details. Anyway did anyone else here play this game? And is it worth trying to build up your character (is the game better later? because right now it's kind of dull)? And any hints?
I bought it when it first came out on the PC. One of the best games I've played since the Baldur's Gate series. And I really don't play many games anymore because most of the suck. Too much on the graphics and not enough on the gameplay. Morrowind and it's expansion packs are definitely an exception.
The game really depends on how much you like American style RPGs. If you like linear quest with amazing stories from games like those from Japan or China (your sn sounds like chinese so unsure if you've played any of those) then this game is definitely not for you. If you're into games where you can completely lose your self into, no linear pure role play (Dungeon Siege, Fallout, and to an extent, GTA3) then this game will be very fun. Personally I found it pretty enjoyable. The game is just huge, there's no way around that. And it does get kind of interesting with the guild politics later on in the game. I use to be the kind of person that has to have a rpg with a very indepth and involving story, but games like Fallout and Dungeon Siege changed that for me.
i just played it somemore. so i'm walking around trying to find some dweemer ruin and randomly this big bat like thing flies down and kills me. i mean that's kinda arbitrary!! i guess the learning curve is steep but they could have made you a little less weak in the beginning. wizkid -- fallout, is it 2 player co-op? and is there an xbox version? i mean i like games like dynasty warriors, but not like shenmue, as far as asian games go.
i hated it. I tried and tired but could never get into it. Having to read all the text sort of bums me out.
Go to Gamefaqs.com and look at the faq's section on this game. If you understand how this game works, it will be much more enjoyable. It essentially allows you to build your character in any way you like, and follow any (or all) of dozens of different quest series. FYI --- If you do like it, the Game of the Year edition just came out, which includes both expansion packs.
I love the game...it is like my crack. My dad bought it for me when it came out, and I loved it then. I kind of knew what to expect since I loved Daggerfall, which I'm trying to find again so I can play THAT again. I remember playing Morrowind religiously for a couple of months, and then I got a little burned out. However, I then got addicted again and was spending hours playing it again. Then got burned out....and then came back....kind of an endless cycle. One thing to do if you have the PC version, and maybe even the XBOX version is to download mods online. There are mods out there for new weapons, armor, spells, creatures, quests, cities, islands, NPCs, tweaks for realism, or just about anything else you could think of. I put in a lot of things to make Morrowind seem even more alive with more NPCs, cows, goats, chickens, and even dwarves. I basically bought the expansion packs because the newer mods require them, although I did enjoy becoming a werewolf in Bloodmoon. I think their are suppose to be like maybe 2 HUGE mods coming out with new versions this month. (Wizards Islands and Veldion, Quest for a King) They are both like in the 200-300 MB in size, IIRC, but I think they add so much to the game. I think one guaranteed 40-60 hours of play with all the quests. Considering it is free, that's a good deal. You could probably find mods anywhere, but I normally go to this site: http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/index.asp
The map for this game is every where on the internet. So you can find the ruin and the box and etc pretty easily. The big bat is more of a teradactyl (butcherd spelling I know) but it shouldn't be that hard to beat, you just haven't leveled enough. When it comes to rpg, it's never really hard except for some of the puzzles. Just level for a couple hours and you'd get past your stump and save a lot. Fallout is a rpg for pc. But it's requirement is pretty low so if you can find it i definitely recommend it. I recommend fall out 2 even more. When I say asian games, I meant mostly the rpgs (yeah, I'm a huge rpg fan), but like Dynasty warriors and shenmue, imo asian games have much better story and gameplay. While American games rely much more on graphics and action sequence. A side note, I think I like Dungeon Siege (once again PC) more than Morrowind, I've also heard VERY good things about the Star War knights of the old republic. If you're really in China though, you'd love the bootleg games. I think everyone there has a moded system and all the games are like 1 dollar each. My cousins have 1/100th of disposable income/allowance than i do but have about 200 times the game i do, some how i think that' really unfair
Almost too long and too big for it's own good. But interesting attempt. If they could individualize the characters and have Halo like battle, it would be better. It's probably the closest game to the type of role playing game I would like to see.
I can understand what you're saying, but this is exactly why I love the game. It's so huge, you always have something new to encounter. I hate games where all you do is "Do A", "Do B", "Do C", "Kill the pseudo-bosses", "One big encounter with the big boss - kill him/her". This game has that plus so much more.
The strange thing was that we learned a little bit about sodomy in my Pre-Cal class today. It was the word of the day. I always seem to phrase things wrong. My crack is becoming a huge problem.
Morrowind is a modern classic. I agree with what a lot of people have said about it. If you want a lot of hours and a good replay factor which it sounds like you do from your initial post, then morrowind is the game for you. There are so many side quests, and random tombs, and ruins you can explore as you go along that it could take forever to do everything in the game. There are many houses and guilds you could join and work for, as well as the main quest. The in-game literature and writing that went into creating this project really amazes me. It is all so thorough. I've gone through the same cycle of loving it, tiring of it a bit, and then coming back to become addicted again. If you don't like roleplaying games that give you a lot of in-game freedoms then I can understand that you might not like it. The only minor complaint I have about the game is that it's hard to travel over land fast enough unless you take the silt striders etc. And there are too many mountain racers(those things that are killing you.) There is a game guide on Gamespot called Desslock's Guide. I think this is for the PC game but most of it should apply to Xbox as well. http://www.gamespot.com/gamespot/gameguides/all/morrowind/
That was definately the major problem. Traveling from one place to another. It took so long. But to it's defense, sometimes you discovered stuff on those journeys.
One of the first mods I got had a ring that teleported me to a place that was like a station to most of the highly visited spots in Morrowind. I could go anywhere VERY QUICKLY. Plus, if I had a long ways to go, I'd edit my speed to like 350, reach the place, and set it back to where it was, although I think that wasn't a good thing to do since the game would crash even more when I did that. I also had a tweak that made the cliff racers and slaughterfish not attack unless they were attacked by you. That was much appreciated. I actually haven't played with my crack in a few days. I'm missing it so much now. (ok, now it probably isn't funny anymore...)
