trump considered lee for USSC in the past. Funny lee would introduce this before the senate votes on overturning trump's national emergency wall declaration. Wonder if lee votes to overturn trump's "acting like a king" wall declaration? Or... is there some other hidden move behind this?

Utah Sen. Mike Lee just introduced a bill to prevent President Trump from 'acting like a king'

Utah Sen. Mike Lee introduced legislation Tuesday to curb the president’s power to declare a national emergency. The bill comes just days before the Senate plans to vote on a resolution to reverse President Donald Trump’s emergency declaration on border security. "If we don’t want our president acting like a king, we need to start taking back the legislative powers that allow him to do so," Lee said Tuesday.

If passed, the bill, called the Article One Act, would "take back significant legislative powers" given to the executive branch by law, according to a press release issued by Lee's office Tuesday. Currently, Congress is able to cancel an emergency declaration only by passing a resolution with enough support to withstand a presidential veto.
Under Lee's proposal, if a president were to declare a national emergency, Congress would have to approve it within 30 days or it would automatically expire.

Pence, GOP senators discuss offer to kill Trump emergency disapproval resolution

Vice President Pence is discussing an offer with Republican senators that could lead to the defeat of a Democratic resolution overturning President Trump’s emergency declaration to build a wall on the Mexican border, according to GOP sources briefed on the matter. Under the deal discussed between Pence and GOP senators, Trump would sign legislation reining in his power to declare future national emergencies if they defeat the resolution of disapproval. Killing the resolution on the Republican-controlled Senate floor would spare the president a major embarrassment and avoid him having to issue the first veto of his presidency.

But there is some skepticism among GOP senators whether Trump will actually go through with it. And the plan is hurt by the fact that a bill to curb the president’s power to declare national emergencies won’t come to the Senate floor until after the March recess. Pence met Tuesday with a group of Republicans, including Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), the sponsor of legislation to curb the president’s national emergency declaration power, as well as Sens. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.). Lee’s measure would require Congress to vote to extend a national emergency declaration after a period of 30 days.

So, the idea is they would let Trump have his fake emergency and then pull up the ladder behind them so that the incoming Democratic president isn't able to do the same thing to address their own issues?

Doesn't matter. They should pass this bill anyway. The emergency powers the presidents have are too broad. Ridiculous that Congress has to do some horse-trading to get enough consensus to take back their own damn power. It should be an automatic veto-proof majority.
