There's no specifics in this statement.

Tilman's hospitality business is honest work compared to selling junk bonds

It's the kind of thing that can't be hidden. If significant costs are cut, people will be let go, things or services will disappear, etc. It will be evident or disclosed somehow to the media.

Two high-ranking sources with the team shot it completely down. I understand how in-house issues try to remain in-house, but this couldn't stay a secret over the next week or two if it was true.

Use of the word "Feverishly" in that tweet is the only clue you need that this guy is biased.

Tillman is a billionaire. He's not a billionaire by accident - he's one because he's a competent business man. If he's going to cut costs in an organization he would do it "methodically" (with purpose) instead of "feverishly" (in a panic).

Using the word feverishly suggests that this guy has an agenda (to cast Tillman's cost cutting actions in a negative light).

If Tillman is cutting costs, there could be many logical reasons. The most obvious one is this - when someone buys a business, they often go through a 6 to 12 month evaluation period where they observe the people in key roles and thereafter cut staff and budgets where they see inefficiencies.

This type of cost / resource cutting is often accompanied by offering new contracts and pay raises to key performers to make sure the remaining staff knows the layoffs weren't a sign of distress, but were a natural process of removing excess so that resources could be better allocated elsewhere. (Sound familiar?)

Tillman may just be "pissing on the tree" now that he owns it. The tweeter is "feverishly" trying to turn a run of the mill business occurrence into a sensationalized story for his own benefit. Nothing to see here...

    Haha not offended one bit

For me it was a combo of all the rumors of Tilmans financial/cheapness status, along with Morey constantly praising Alexander‘s willingness to spend on draft picks and Morey mentioning Alexander giving him everything he needed. It’s early but haven’t heard that of Tilman from Morey just yet. Also, Tilman allowing Morey to talk to Philly in the off-season threw me off.

75% of this board are complete morons, believing some tweet rather than looking at the facts.

he was trying his best to get Butler, obviously he wanted to sign him long term making us way over tax.
he did everything he could to bring back Bizdelick, prob paying way over value.
    just signed morey to extension.

    quit being morons

I'll do God's work at keep it on the first page from the GARM. I really want to get advice from the many corporate execs we apparently have on this forum on how to run a business without trying to reduce cost. Seems to be the total opposite of being Lean which is pretty radical.

It's an honest question and I have no intention to use whatever response he/she gives as ammunition afterwards.

My thought process is that everyone here can criticize whomever they want--Tilman, Morey, Harden, Zhou Qi, etc. I'm not a thought police and never plan to be one. However, given that there seems to be more Chicken Littles posting on here lately, it would benefit me (and I guess others as well) to know how far back does your fandom goes so that I can respond (or NOT respond) accordingly.

Like, if you only started following the Rockets last year, then I get why you would be so critical/cynical of this year's team because the bar was set so high for you early on. However, if you've been through the dry years in the late 90s to early 2000s or even when our best player was Kevin Martin...then I wonder why are you so full of angst now?

this has been a great sequence of events for us imo

even if tilman hasn't really been cheap up until now, with this accusation thrown at him, going forward he'll definitely think twice about the fan backlash that would ensue if he ever does go full Sterling

    @Clutch

If two employees said they spent the night with Tilman and made a HBO documentary about it, everyone would believe it

We are living in world where nobody cares about evidence or legitimacy

Remember when you use to ban Real GM posts???

Just don't cut the medical staff and fix x-ray machines. How many people are needed in a NBA organization?

Cost cutting happens in all businesses. The problem I see is "ALL" departments. That says to me he is in financial trouble.

Noooooo! This was a mistake, Brian meant the TEXANS are cutting back, not The Rockets! STILL NO O-LINEMAN IN FREE AGENCY.

Or it could mean that he's LEANing up the organization and, after year of overseeing the business/franchise, he's identified the excess that can be trimmed.
