I know the Rockets are on a "roll" now and trade talk seems to have ceased, but Mariotti, a Chicago writer, as an interesting article. (I'll give them due credit if they can take the Spurs and/or Lakers, the 4 Eastern wins were none too inspiring.) And for the record, I wouldn't do what he proposes http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay08.html
Fanciful, as trade stuff written here is...better stuff, better thought out here with some than this blurb from Jay Mary.
They want to sign Curry to a contract (nearly) matching Steve's and trade him to us so they can do us a favor? What's he smoking? There better be other players/teams involved. I sure as hell don't want an $80 million Eddy Curry.
Offer Cato for Curry and one of their bad contracts. Curry could become a fantastic PF to go alongside Yao Ming and a backup center when needed. He reminds me of Zach Randolph for some reason -- a player waiting to take off. Of course, I like the Francis for Hinrich, Curry and Jerome Williams package better.
Jeez. You'd think a supposed "journalist" would have more common sense than suggest a one-for-one swap between an All-Star and an unproven player whose only shown occasional spurts of potential
LOL ... I know it's an editorial, but that is the worst fantasy trade I've ever seen by a journalist. Hmmm.... Curry's contract doesn't work? Lets just pay him max money! In Peter Vecsey's article this morning, he says "Miami is in the hunt for Erick Dampier or Nazr Mohammed, it's prime bait being Caron Butler, a Heat hearing aide reports." If they're dangling Caron Butler for those players (especially Mohammed), why in the hell aren't we dangling Cato?
Has anyone looked at Caron Butler's stats this season? What the hell happened to that guy, he looked like a stud last year. That being said, I would still trade Cato for him any day of the week.
ohh goody a curry yao front court we better make a trade to get marion or that will be one of the worst rebounding front courts in history.
The drugs must be damn good in Jay Mariotti-land. No offense to the thread starter, but this one should be closed and Jay Mariotti should be banned from the BBS.
I mostly posted it just to give everyone an idea of what an "outsider" views Francis to be worth, (even if Mariotti is often a bit idiotic.) I just hope other teams view him as more valuable than the soft Curry.
Mariotti is stuck on stupid. Chicago must be a Sh*tty sports town, considering the Cubs, Bulls, Bears, etc.
Curry is talented but is the worst rebounder for his size and he doesn't defend anyone either. It would be a very bad trade for us. Caron Butler is really struggling. I still think he needs to get back to full fitness and improve his outside shooting. Even though he is more talented than Cato I wouldn't go after him right now.
No way I do Francis for Eddie Curry. The writer is further off than just value for value. If CHI extends Curry now, he becomes BYC. Depending on how the Bulls handle their 2004 FA's (Fizer, Crawford, Blount), Curry could also be BYC with a summer extension. Caron Butler's been injured but IMHO he's got game and an attitude to succeed. However, given the contract $ differences, MIA is going to have to send out Grant or Eddie Jones. Those scenarios have been routinely discussed so I'll stop here.
Steve Francis for Eddy Curry?!? Say it aint so! Its like a dream come true. Eddy Curry kicks ass. We might have to throw in Yao Ming to make the trade a little even though. WTF is this Mariotti guy thinking!!!!!
after the letters BYC flashed through my head (and the fact that's exactly why we have BYC) it did seem hilarious. hey, houston won't take curry for francis. well...what if we pay him 4 times as much? brilliant!
I don't think the Bulls have any sort of package of players that I would trade for Francis. Maybe Curry, Hinrich and a 1st. But that is only if Steve comes out and demands a trade. Othewise I doubt the Rockets will be dealing with Chi-Town
For that matter, why don't we get in the hunt for Dampier. I realize we already have the lesser version of him in Cato, but he might be an alright pick-up as well.
