With 40 seconds left Kawhi made it 105-92 with a layup - but as I was watching I had no idea why the refs gave him 2 points. The shot was way off and hit the backboard, the shotclock expired so CP went to the sideline to take the ball from the violation. The ref was even about to give it to him. Then something weird happens. The camera cut to Capela and you could hear the stadium announcer saying it was a 2 point basket, suddenly Capela is looking around as confused as I was. Did anybody else clock this? Game was over so may have been overlooked but I saw nothing on twitter or here. I thought the refs somehow just thought the shot went in, which would have been amazing, although looking back they could have just thought it was a goaltend, even though it clearly wasn't (pics below). Anybody see this?
I just watched the replay and yeah, that’s weird. It will probably be retracted in the next day or so. They are usually ok with that if it doesn’t effect the final outcome of the game (which it definitely wouldn’t in this case).
Yeah sorry, meant to say in my post I can post a vid later today, not at my laptop rn. I was also watching on league pass which was the Toronto crew broadcast so I dunno if the players only shed any light on it. Although I can probably answer that one myself.
Yes! 00:37.1 "HOU - Capela Violation: Defensive Goaltending (M Boland)" https://www.nba.com/games/20190305/HOUTOR#/pbp
I guess they figured the ball was over the cylinder? He got it on the way up, it looked like, so goaltending looks like a bad call.
