If you want to move Steve to the 2, you obviously have to trade Mobley (who would be the odd man out) for the PG.
trading yao b4 his prime is the worst decision ever.....wouldnt mind tradin steve and cat for tmac and gooden/joward tho.....
If Yao improves and he might (he needs to) And if Steve and JVG can co-exist (they need to) If Steve continues to develop in the JVG system (like he has shown at times) If we add another good player and be patient. (it will take time) Then we can all relax. But "if" is too big a word, I say shake things up. I love the Rockets and it hurts to think we will not win a championship with this group. Players and coach, because I want a championship not a playoff appearance. Les, please get this team headed in the right direction to win a championship. Excuse my sig.
the bottom line is that when yao doesnt play well the team generally doesnt play well. yao has not been playing well. when he does play well we dominate. yao is not consistent enough yet and he does not know how to post up well enough yet. he cant get position everytime and he is not quick enough at taking his shots. he shouldnt wait to pass first he should get the ball in the post and make a move immediately. there are at least 3 to 4 times a game where yao has an easy spin move to the basket or is a drop step away from a 3 foot hook shot but instead he waits. yao simply has to be more aggressive for us to win. he has to look to take it to the hole first and look to pass second if nothing is there.
Yao's biggest problem is that he is too afraid to make mistakes and that sometimes leads to more mistakes. He always worries that he would commit a TO if he just gets the ball and attacks immediately because he doesn't know what the opposing defensive scheme is. In fact, however, the longer he holds the ball, the more likely that a guard from the weak side will sneak over and strip it away. What Yao is really bad at is handling double teams. He's almost scared of it. He passes as soon as he sees one. And his passes out of double team are often weak and can be intercepted easily. Besides, our parameter guys are really bad at making an extra quick pass. That's the sole purpose of passing out of double team--you find the open man and make the opposing team pay for cheating. We just don't do that well enough. That's why double-teaming Yao works so well against us. Hence, it is crucial that Yao makes moves as soon as he gets the ball. It would also help if Yao could swing some elbows to create some space against double team. Watch some tapes of how Shaq does it, especially earlier in his career. I don't think that Yao is as turnover-prone as some of us think. All the post guys turn the ball over. Shaq has a lot more turnovers than Yao does; Duncan has more TOs than Yao does. When Yao becomes tentative in his play that's when he turns the ball over. Sometimes I feel that he thinks too much. He just needs to play.
One problem for Yao is that if Yao turn the ball over a couple of time, JVG will bench him, or the guards will stop pass the ball to him, which make him more nevous in the next move. Of course, Yao need do his thing.
Yao's problem is that the starting guard do not deliver him good passes on a consistent basis. That, and JVG's tendency to bench him. How can he ever grow into the center he can become without 15-20 touches a game and benched for long peroids of time? Steve needs to have another talk with Oscar Robertson. Maybe Moses Malone should tutor Yao Ming into using his strengths.
if you look at the pic on nba,com that they had yesterday of yao and shaq next to each other .then you will see why the media think yao should play alot better then he does .yao is so much taller and not even half th eforce shaq is.
You're right, lalala. Yao posted a thread in which he talked about his TO in his own BBS several months ago. His opinion is similar as what you said above. (Sorry,I can't remember the date he posted.)
Are you kidding me?? He 's 7'6!!! He should get 15 boards by accident.....currently alot of his boards are by accident. I'm just saying at his height, considering he's not a complete gimp, its not unrealistic for him to be far and away the best rebounder in the league.
He's tall, so he should get 15 boards a game? Don't you think some other factors come into play too? I don't know, strength, positioning, reaction time, mobility? I know you're trying to joke around a bit, but lets not be unrealistic here...Yao isn't strong enough or quick enough to have those kind of stats yet. Give him some time, all he needs is strength and he'll be around 12 at least.
