From hardradio.com: "Sources confirm that SAMMY HAGAR and the rest of VAN HALEN are currently locked away in a California studio. No word on whether they are recording a couple of tracks for the much talked about Best Of Vol. II or a full studio record. Another rumor surfaced today - the band is currently booking a summer tour and are rumored to have hand picked TESLA to be the opening band."
This would normally be great news....EXCEPT SH SHOULD BE DLR!!! I'm an old school Van Halen fan and, while Van Hagar made some great tunes, they'll never live up to the original Van Halen!
Hope this is true. I would rather have DLR too, but SH wasnt bad. As long as it wasnt Gary Cherone I would go see VH.
I was driving into work yesterday listening to Dean & Rog on the Classic Rock station ('cuz I'm a dork like that), and as I was pulling into the lot about 40 minutes after I should have gotten there, what should they start playing? Mean Street. Man.....I didn't know my stereo got that loud. I just sat in the parking lot rocking out and then walked into the office with my ears bleeding. Sammy Hagar is a much cooler guy than David Lee Roth, but the Sammy era Van Halen NEVER did for me what the earlier stuff did.
Every person that's ever been a member of Van Halen needs to just die in a plane wreck so we don't have to keep hearing about them...There's a reason that the latest song from them that gets any airplay is over 10 years old... and geez...TESLA?
I think Van Halen should just stop. They had an incredible run with Roth and slowly devolved into a lite-rock joke and then into just a joke. Of course, people can do whatever they want to do and I'm sure their tour will do gangbusters. But the image of Van Halen I'll always have in my mind is of David Lee Roth doing the splits of the drum riser, not a tequila-soaked dork in sunglasses crooning along to the stylings of an old man with a bad hip.
These guys should be thankful for SH vs DLR otherwise they'd just be somewhere in line of old washed up rockers, the magic is gone but I was never a big VH fan, maybe it was the spandex I dunno.
I'd take a washed up Van Halen (even with Sammy Hagar) over a Linkin Park or Creed in their prime any day. I definitely preferred the DLR era though.
I think I'm the only person in America who would take SHVH over DLRVH any day of the freakin' week. For my money, it doesn't get better than when Sammy Hagar belts out When It's Love.
If someone handed you a tray with two slimy turds and says, "Eat one" do you pick the less stinky one? Of course not - you don't need to eat either one because THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS! The same goes for music. Why is it that whenever someone say "Band A is a washed-up bunch of old farts," someone else says, "Well at least they're better than Band B (usually Creed or Linkin Park, whom I agree are the musical equivalent of diarrhea)."? Don't you realize that there are more than just 2-3 bands out there. Why don't you try checking out some bands that are considered good, instead of settling for the less annoying of the two?
I should start a whole thread about this, but ill leave that for another day. What i want to say is why come people seem to drop new music as they get to a certain age. I know i listen to stuff that i liked when i was 13 for instance pearl jam ten, or anything else. Im only 24 at the moment but i will always listen to new music when i hear of something i like. Possibly because its one of the biggest joys in life finding something that just brings me to another place. So for all of you middle aged guys out there, take a f*cking chance and see whats out there. Ill give you this Creed sucks huge, and i personally liked Linkin Park for about 2 weeks then they got old quick. But there are a lot of great new bands out there. For instance Yeah yeah yeahs have a great female singer. For me one of the best i have ever heard, hopefully she improves even more next album. And how about The Rapture, kind of brings me back to The Cure. And oh yes i can give you more Blue October and Wilco rock but with a little touch of country. And Radiohead The Bends and Ok Computer, and to a lesser extent Ok Computer and Amnesiac. These guys have made stuff that will stand the test of time as much for me as Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Led Zepplin. Then there is hip hop to all people just like rock with linkin park and creed there is more out there then 50 cent, and Ja Rule. Sage Francis, cunninluingists, aesop rock, kotix, zion i all have a very powerful message. old incubus stuff, some of the white stripes, the strokes oldest cd all very good also. ok ill shut up now. ********************* and yes sammy hagar is a freaking joke, one of the biggest i have ever seen in Rock. David lee Roth was one also but he at least knew it and had fun, while not taking himself to seriously. And what is Eddie van Halen just a big ass, why can he not get along with anybody.
I'm with you on Hagar, RM95. I always enjoyed the stuff VH put out with him at the helm more than I did the DLR stuff. Not to say the Roth stuff was bad, but a lot of it had more of a campy feel that I just didn't dig. Except Ice Cream Man. That song will live on forever.
This rumor has been around for a while. SH said on his web site that he met and hung with the VH bros before Xmas. The implication being that at least now they are on speaking terms. Other VH rumors: VanHagar have two quality songs that were recorded after Balance, that are now being considered fror a VH Greatest Hits 2. EVH is said to have at least 2 albums of music recorded, ready for lyrics and vocals. If SH does not work out, another vocalist will be found. If the GH2 and summer tour go well, SH and EVH would then cut the next new full length VH album.
