As always. It's the same every year. They will aim for star(Butler) but probably end up with minimum signings(for example JR Smith)

I don't see a pathway to getting him, unless he forces himself here like Chris Paul did.

We couldn't clear enough room under the cap. Cap next year is $109million. We are on the hook for $121,768,867 not counting roster holds. If we renounced Shump, dealt away Gordon and Capela for ZERO incoming salary we'd have like 10-14 million in cap space depending on roster hold charges (not sure what the exact amount is right now.)

Always aim high. Whether or not the aspirations come to fruition is a different story.

That's exactly the only way it will happen. Threaten to leave for nothing, and then negotiate with Philly about trading him for Gordon, Nene and a couple of picks.

As others have mentioned, Paul and Harden would have to convince Butler to want to be here. Then Butler would have to force his way here because we don't have the space to offer someone of his ability a reasonable contract.

I don't think Butler needs convincing to be here. Tomball being right up the road, the Rockets being his favorite team when he was growing up, James Harden being his friend (I think?). But working out the details. Ah, there's the rub.

Tilman and Morey punted on the luxury tax this season because it'll be unavoidable for a few seasons after this one. Whether they know something about acquiring Butler or not, well............I'll be stupid enough to be F5'ing my way through the summer, but not with baited breath. You just wind up passing out and waking up with a headache......and no star third player.

I'll push my chips in when Burt Steele and/or Tater Head say it's happening. :p

I see absolutely no way this happens. But, Moreys smarter than me, so I will wait and see.

Even in this scenario it becomes challenging because Philly would have to want to pay the luxury tax for players we would offer. It's not as simple as it was with the Clippers.

I can't imagine anyone paying the luxury tax for Eric Gordon. I guess maybe if the rockets offered 4 frp. Even then those will be low 1st rounders. You want to pay 30-40 million dollars and give up a good asset for EG and 4 low 1st?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but i don't see how Houston does this without going back to the trade they didn't want to make earlier: PJ Tucker and Eric Gordon for Butler. I mean, they could also do an EG and Nene combo, but Philly would have to agree to it as well. Maybe some ninja action is going on that I can't see.

that doesn't necessarily mean its true. we have legit guys like woj saying butler wants supermax. that shouldn't be ignored at all and I'd say hes pretty credible

Is there a way to get Deandre Jordan here on a cheaper contract than Capela (hometown discount), and trade Capela and Gordon to free up money for Butler?

Who's to say they wouldn't want to make that trade after the season? Circumstances will be different.

I mean, if I'm Philly do I want that deal? I guess if your options are lose JB for nothing, or take on other talent maybe that's precisely what they do, I just think there's not enough in that pot to make me happy. Flip it the other way, if JB was leaving us, do you think EG is enough of a consolation prize to make you happy?

If JB wants to come here, I have no doubt Morey can make it happen, I just don't see how it gets done right now.

I think they were trying to get under the tax this year so they can go over the next few seasons and avoid the repeaters tax.
