This is what I would want for Francis and another Rocket player (Cat, Taylor, Cato, etc...):

    - Francis & Another Rocket for Artest & Tinsley
    - Francis & Another Rocket for McGrady & Whatever
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Sheed & Anderson
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Kobe & Whatever
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Lewis & Radmanawich
    - Francis & Another Rocket for SAR & Terry
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Carter & Williams
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Wade & Odom
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Ford & Redd
    - Francis & Another Rocket for AK & Arroyo
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Brand & Jaric
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Marion & Whatever
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Nash & Najara
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Bobby Jackson & Brad Miller
    - Francis & Another Rocket for Van Exel & Richardson

    Again, just a wish list.

if we move steve it will either be with a filler or cato. and we would probobly be looking for a F/C or a 3 or both. the PG position in vg's system is a role player we can sign a couple of those later, or even use our trade exception to bring one in.

I love all the trade suggestions from losing teams because you want to get rid of a player who at least has had winning seasons.

    Especially Sharif and Elton.

Right now, I'd probably trade Francis for pocket lint. So, all of these trades sound more or less ok to me. Of course, I'd like to get as much as I can back, but I wouldn't kill any reasonable deal.

I wonder if Sacto would ever have any use for Francis in exchange for Webber? That'd be an interesting swap of underachieving chokers. Webber would work pretty well next to Ming - a big, passing pf that can rebound and hit jumpers. I'm not really thinking Sacto needs a shoot first combo guard, but, hey. Stranger things have happened. SAR is younger but can't pass nearly so well. If we're going to develop Ming, it'd be nice to get some interior passing.

I'd really like to make a play for Troy Hudson in the summer. Remember before the season started people talked about how they were going to split the minutes with Cassell since Hudson had played so well? Well, that's over. I'd think Troy will be looking for a starting job.

Elton Brand - My first choice. But I'm not sure pics exist that would make Sterling pull the trigger on that one.

SAR - I can see this and think this is probably the more reasonably acceptable trade from both parties.

Kwame Brown - Showing some amazing promise after the first couple of semi-flop years. Contract year player or is he just now figuring thing out? They'd have to add an insurance player for me to be comfortable.

The question becomes then, what good PG are you going to get for Cato? I'd rather keep Mo than Cato and I think Cato would draw some good interest expecially from the East. Would Atlanta be interested in Cato and Francis for Terry and SAR? Is Terry who we really want to run the ball? I don't catch enough Hawk TV to judge that one.

Ainge eyes deal by trade deadline
    By Steve Bulpett
    Friday, February 6, 2004

Danny Ainge said yesterday he is ``hopeful'' he can make another deal by the NBA's Feb. 19 trading deadline.

He zoned in on his desires, saying, ``We need a rebounder, and we need point guard help.''

The Celtics are currently near the bottom of the league rankings in the rebound categories, and they are asking a great deal from Mike James [news] and rookie Marcus Banks [news] at the point.

Ainge again wouldn't confirm Tuesday's Herald report that the Celtics have made a bid for Seattle guard Brent Barry, currently out with a broken finger, but he did speak about another aspect to that story - that Chris Mills' contract is being dangled. Mills, out for the season with an Achilles tendon injury, gets $6.6 million this year, 80 percent of which is picked up by insurance.

``One thing that we do have that has been discussed is Chris Mills' contract, which is a situation where a lot of people would like to get that and get off a player's contract,'' Ainge said. ``There's a lot of teams out there hoping to be in the Kobe Bryant sweepstakes this summer and they might want to get rid of a halfway decent player - a player that can come in and contribute to us greatly. So that's one possibility.''

Asked whether he's looking for a veteran, Ainge said, ``I don't want to go get Kevin Willis or Cliff Robinson, but, I mean, I would like to get a player that would be with us for a few years. But if somebody is 30 and healthy, I wouldn't hesitate.''

    so...here goes....

Boston trades: PG Marcus Banks (5.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 2.3 apg in 16.9 minutes)
PG Chris Mills (5.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 2.3 apg in 16.9 minutes)
SG Paul Pierce (22.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 5.4 apg in 38.4 minutes)
Boston receives: C Kelvin Cato (6.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.0 apg in 27.1 minutes)
PG Steve Francis (16.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.9 apg in 39.7 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -5.2 ppg, +4.5 rpg, and -0.8 apg.

Houston trades: C Kelvin Cato (6.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.0 apg in 27.1 minutes)
PG Steve Francis (16.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.9 apg in 39.7 minutes)
Houston receives: PG Marcus Banks (5.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 2.3 apg in 49 games)
PG Chris Mills (5.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 2.3 apg in 49 games)
SG Paul Pierce (22.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 5.4 apg in 50 games)
Change in team outlook: +5.2 ppg, -4.5 rpg, and +0.8 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

    :)

I watch a lot of Celtics games and there is no way on this planet Francis would pry Pierce loose from Boston. If you've ever heard (Celtic commentator) Tommy Heinsohn's criticisms of the Celtics lack of uptempo, failure to move the ball around, poor decision making and his comments about Francis and Mobley as shot happy guards, then you know Ainge would fear for his life if he moved Pierce for Francis. This one will never happen.

Most posters seem to forget that for us to trade Francis, another team actually needs to want Francis.

I don't see the Bulls trading their young cornerstones for Francis (who has peaked, and shown everything he can be, which is not a person who can carry a team to a playoff.) In fact, why would these teams trade their SuperStars for a fading star? I'd be delighted if we got an Andre Miller type player, because as time goes on, Francis' value drops and drops. (And the sad thing is, I don't see why they'd trade Andre, he's done wonders for their team with Carmelo.)

McGrady is a no brainer. Plus he can feed the post. It's perfect. But I'm still a Francis fan. He's almost just as good as McGrady

Incidentally, Francis + Cato for McGrady + Howard works on RealGM trade checker. I just wish we could figure out how to suck up a draft pick or Reece Gaines (a flop this year but IMO he will snap out of his funk and "injury") as well.
