I'd take Magloire over Mutombo just on youth alone. However, of that list in order of value (obviously, the Rocks can't have them all nor would we) I would select: 1) Rashard Lewis 2) Manu Ginobili 3) Meme Okur 4) Mike Miller 5) Crawford and 6) Ron Mercer.

I did not choose Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Rasheed Wallace etc. because they will probably not come to Houston and they would be too expensive if they did. Lewis would be expensive but at least he is a "homie" (or however this slang is spelled).

I don't think Wallace will be too expensive. He's over 30 and coming off a 100 million dollar contract in which few people felt he lived up to. Much like Juwan Howard, he's going to have to settle for considerably less this time. He's also stated that he would love to play in Houston. It's not as unlikely as you think. That's one of the reasons I'd love to see Francis shipped out. A whole lot of players want to come to Houston and play with Yao Ming right now. We could use the money.

Also, Mutumbo first team? He's nearly useless at this point in his career. Divac second team? He's still productive but he's over the hill. Meanwhile, Dampier is averaging a double double and Magloirre is on the eastern conference all-star team. Malone is also over the hill and I doubt few teams would rather have him than Kenyon Martin or Rasheed Wallace if given the option.

    as to who I'd like:

Kenyon Martin - but I suspect he's going to get far more money than he's worth. I won't be surprised if he gets near max contract and I wouldn't want him for more than 50 million or so.

Rasheed Wallace- would be nice if he can be signed at a decent price.

Ron Artest - I would absolutely love to see him in a Rockets uniform but I think he'll require an obscene amount of money as well.

Rashard Lewis? didn't he sign a 6 year deal two years ago or so? I can't believe he's a free agent. If it is so, and I really don't believe it is, I'd really love to see him in a Rockets jersey.

Dampier, Camby, Kurt Thomas would all be nice to play power forward too.

Nash is the only point guard I see I'd be interested in but he isn't leaving Dallas. He'll get big money there. He's been under-paid for years and it's time Cuban pays up.

I would go for B. Barry as a free agent. Perfect backup PG and SG. And a decent starting PG just in case ;)

The list is flawed. Ron Artest and Rashard Lewis are not FA's this summer. All we have to offer is the ~$4.9m MLE which won't touch 95% of what's listed.

Isn't that where the trade exception becomes a major factor? If we did a sign and trade with it?

Absolutely. But there are other dominoes. What Rocket player(s) are we willing to give up to the teams' holding the contracts of the players on the list? So you see...this thread isn't about FA signings any longer...It's about dreamcasting trades. Two entirely differenT subjects IMO.

Just add $6.9m to your least favorite Rockets' contract and decide if the team holding the contract of the FA you want is interested in your Rocket discard! :)

I'd take KMart first. I can't help it, I am awed by his amazing athletic ability.

I guess we could also send a future 1st for an SnT'd player @ $6.9m...it's $2m more than the MLE. But if the player has any trade value to other teams it's not likely to occur.

Mike Miller could be a great low-cost pickup. Put him at the 3 and move JJ to the 2.

Alexander should prepare his checkbook? Ya right, they guy probably has it in some secret vault where you need 2 keys to open it.

But besides that, I think we only really have a chance at Sheed. I'm pretty sure we can get him for a nice deal. Only thing is that MoT would be gone if we signed Sheed, there is no way those 2 guys could be on the same team.

I'd love to have K-Mart too, it's just too bad he is asking for the MAX.

Our new motto would be "instant spine for our front line".

Although Mo's coming on solid as of late...

    Again,

Left out the BEST free agent this year.

    Carlos Boozer !!

He is the player the Rockets should go after with a vengence.

i would love to sign sign rasheed wallace, iam sure he would agree to a 6.9 first year 5 year deal with 12.5 increase(the max increase). then we can trade mo for a 3, i hear that sonics are looking for a PF and are trying to deal radmonovic or lewis(rather trade radmovic), because they think radmonovic isnt really a pf is more of a sf. Mo + Cat + 1st? for Lewis
    C-Yao Ming/Kelvin Cato
    PF-Rasheed/Weatherspoon
    SF-Rashard Lewis/Adrian Griffen/Boki
    SG-Jim Jackson/Piatowkski
    PG-Steve Franics/Marc Jackson/Wilks

Even though hes not a high profile free agent i would like to see MEDVEDENKO if we can't get sheed. A pretty good shooter and rebounder. Even though he might get a little triggerhappy.

Mike Miller is one bad mofo. Memphis is not gonna let him go. It would be nice if we can get him though. He can play the 2 or 3 and has a nice shot and post up game.
