The Rockets are currently 635k below the luxury tax line, 1.1m if Capela doesn't get his rebounding bonus, who can the Rockets realistically sign?
Doubt they sign anyone …. very close to that tax line and if the goal is to stay under this year because its going to be increasingly difficult going forward ….
Capela Tucker Shumpert Harden Paul Gordon Faried Rivers Green Getting House back would be great but MDA will still only run a 6-7 man rotation in the playoffs.
Our goal is to keep the roster at 12 . Send hartenstein down , same with Clark , and never play Nene . That way even in blowouts we max out at a 9-man rotation
You are delusional if you think we're getting something other than cheap 10-day contract G-league players at this point. Never forget: it's all about cutting costs and saving money for our Dear Owner; basketball decisions are secondary.
vs. the Warrior's playoff rotation, which probably looks like this: Cousins Green Durant Thompson Curry Iguodala Looney Livingston McKinnie Cook Jerebko
Basically this. They'll wait until late in the season to bring back House and that'll be it. Not sure if they can buy out Nene and not have it count against the luxury tax threshold, that would free up space for at least one player from the waiver wire. If no then House will be it.
Here is who I think Morey is envisioning: Morris, Deandre Jordan, and House. Wesley Matthews would just add another body to a pretty stacked position already, and I dont see him as a major upgrade over what we have already with Shumpert, Rivers, etc. We have struggled down low, and PJ is undersized. Getting Morris gives us another stretch 4, Jordan firms up our Center spot so that we arent dependent on Nene (who defensively and rebounding wise is not nearly what he once was), and adds House as a decent reserve player.
Smart move on his part. I think he'll get a lot more playing time with them than he would have with Golden State or us. He can help fill the void that Oladipo left behind, and will probably start. With GSW, he would have gotten maybe 10 mins a game, and with us maybe 15-20 at best.
What is the pro-rated vet min cost to the Rockets for the rest of the season? I did a very rusty calculation (based on number of games rather than number of days), and if we were to sign someone on the first of March, they would cost something like $370k towards the cap? If that is the case, then it would APPEAR to be possible to sign 2 minimum guys, and then convert House before the end of the GLeague season (Mar 24), and still not pay tax. Related question, if House changes over to a multi-year contract, does he count as having been part of our roster at March 1st, and therefore playoff eligible?
Then it's gotta be a short series because our starters aren't going to be able to keep things up if they have to play 40 minutes a game in the playoffs.
