Yesterday, when I was coming back from the doctors office (follow up from third surgery on my legs), I heard Cliff Simms being interviewed on POTUS and he was making a somewhat similar point while answering how he, a devout Christian, could work for someone like trump. He spun out a list of scare issues against Democrats and said while trump did not act in a way that Christians consider moral (eg the "grab by the ..."), that many of his policies are more friendly towards Christians. He also hoped his working for trump could help bring about change for good.

A pretty reasonable set of responses and very good interview. I wish the interviewer would have followed up the behavior question with the more important question about policies that may not be Christ-like, but unfortunately he missed that. Funny how trump has been attacking Simms.

Wisdom is another thing I heard plenty about in the conservative church. And one of the better arguments I heard from them about 'moralizing' was an appeal to wisdom -- from the heart, the mouth speaks so what you see people do and say tells you something about their inner character. So that might be the place where the evangelical church has most disappointed me, that for all their talk of wisdom, they've acted very foolishly by not taking what Trump has done and said seriously. I think they've compromised themselves for the prospect of temporal 'good.' Maybe they'll get the policies they want in this life and Trump won't have occasion to turn on them. But, that's not what they'd be telling me they were about.

...interestingly consistent with what's passed for "Christian" logic...

...the through-line for this is eerily consistent, biblically.

The Old Testament God was fairly direct and hands-on (after a fashion) in dealing with people...repeatedly gave directions to people on what he wanted done and was very specific on how to do those things...person or persons involved would go off-script for any number of reasons...and God would have to step in and fix things...

...one of the favorites of Christians is that "...all things work together for the good of those who love God..."... or ...anything meant for evil, God can make it work out all right...

...along comes Jesus of Nazareth and turns that logic upside-down...same "divine" tactic (God laying out for mankind what he wants done and how to do it), but different (more personal) approach...essentially saying that the ends don't justify the means...

One story in particular highlights this...Jesus has to chastise one of his disciples (Simon Peter) about trying to get him to circumvent his mission (to die) in order to save himself...(famously calling it an attempt by Satan to lie to him about his purpose)...another story is after Jesus' "resurrection", where he asks Simon Peter three times if he loved him...and that if Simon Peter really loved him, he would do what he asked in the way that he asked.

...(Christian) people (and fairly, other religious people) often have justified wickedness or irresponsibility as acceptable in regards to promoting their idea of what their calling or purpose or belief demands. "God" (knowing that people aren't perfect) would make everything work out if it's put that such behavior is part of "his will"...

...what usually gets me is how often the people who are supposed to be attuned to the will of "God" are more often than not way off-base with it in practical terms...

...I know no idea descends into manifestation without an imperfection...but this stuff with the Donald is just getting ridiculous...:p;)

Some of the worst kinds of people are the ones who declare what God wants or likes/hates.
