It's gotten serious now. I am offically in the hunt. Of course, starting this thread on a Houston based board and living in Dallas may not help. But hey, networking is networking right? :) Here's the scoop:

I love the work I do, usually. I am a Senior Sales Engineer for a telecommunications company (parent company based in Europe, 30 billion dollar company). I've been here 5 years. Things are drastically changing at my current place of employment, and as recent as last week, I heard rumors we are looking to sell the telecom division - the division I belong to.

Anyway, I have a new boss this year who has the management skills of a hammer. He's from France, and his father is very high up in the company. Even though this guy is a Senior Director, he has more clout and political power than the CEO (because of his Daddy). So if you do this guy wrong, you have an instant target on your back, and it's only a matter of time after that. I am not worried about this fact, because I consider myself very adaptive and I do work hard.

My biggest bitterness right now stems from all the wonderful things I was promised three years ago when I went from implementation to sales. I was promised to be put on 6 month instead of 12 month reviews to get my salary up to speed faster. Nothing despite several discussions with management. I was told that since I went from selling multi-million dollar phone systems for LARGE (1,000 - 100,000 lines) businesses to selling phone systems to small and medium (1-1000 lines) businesses that are a fraction of the price, I would get my comp. plan adjusted to compensate me fairly for the drop in price. Nothing despite several discussions with management.

So I think hey, I have a new boss with considerable power, perhaps I can speak with him. I know he values my work and my ethics. So I do.....and he tells me that everyone in the company is supposed to get a raise, and it'll be 2-2.5%. Well, that's not exactly what I was looking for.

So this year, I join the illustrious Channel Sales Division - the elite, the future of the company, selling VOIP. But I take a 20k pay cut to do it.

I am at the point where I am tired of kudos (verbal) - keep em...gimme some $$$$ instead. I busted my a$$ on call center consulting trips to several locations, ALL of which booked after I visited and drew up a business plan (the reseller needed the help, and could not close the business). Several of which still want to deal with me, not the reseller. I even was asked to project manage several installations, negating my ability to sell sell sell, because of the rapport I had built with the customer. I think I've gone above and beyond.

ARGH, this is more of a venting session than networking huh? Sorry!

Anyway, if anyone knows of any Dallas tech. companies that need a hardworking Sales Engineer.....let me know! I appreciate it.

    Lovin' you,

    HOOP-T

Isn't the first rule of job interviews "don't trash your former employer"?? :D

Yes, but I hardly think I trashed them. In fact, I said I loved the work more often than not. I was just promised a lot, and received none. I also said I was on an illustrious team, the elite, blah blah blah.....

I am allowed to be frustrated about that, right? Pretty please?

...and you're also using up productive time on the internet openly searching for a new job, all the while trashing your current employer...Did you go to the Steve Francis school of employee/management relations? :)
