but damn she came out beg deckk swinging. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Trump so emasculated by someone. We all know him to be a whiny brat, but this was a classic example of good parenting, “Cry and throw all the tantrums you want about your new toy, but you’re still getting an ass whoopin’“ All in all, old sociopathic lady I have fundamental ideological differences with, but respeckkkk
Nancy did good, but she's getting way too much credit IMO. The bar has been set so low, just standing up to Trump is considered a huge win. Trump is so wildly unpopular, and cartoonishly stupid, the Dems should be dunking on this guy at every turn.
Nancy deserves credit for this. I still don't like her, but I do think she is pretty good at what she does.
We'll see how it all turns out (and I think reopening the government is a good thing). Various people, including Schumer and McConnell, were meeting today to try to figure out a solution, so not sure I'd give all the credit to Nancy. But, she did say they wouldn't talk or hold the SOTU until government reopened...and it did. But the bigger issue, I think, is what comes next. Personally, I hope they do work together and come up with some bipartisan solution. Our government in general needs more of that.
LOL you think? 70% of the country believe the shutdown was unwarranted in the first place there's no crisis or emergency
Not sure why dems in this thread don't like Pelosi. She is a very talented politician with a proven track record of success. I knew she'd be incredibly effective against Trump.
I don't like her because she isn't really principled. She is dishonest when it serves her purpose, and isn't willing to take stands unless it is for a purpose. She is generally effective, but those aren't things I admire about people in leadership. She fights for issues I agree with most of the time, but she isn't my ideal leader.
I'm not a democrat and have historically disliked Pelosi a lot. However, I DO admire effective leaders. Effectiveness is one of the most important traits in a leader. Leaders of diverse groups rarely have the privilege of being ideologically pure/principled.
I guess it's all a matter of degree. I don't think anyone in politics is 100% principled and I guess it just a matter of how when and how much they will sell out their principles. In the end, I think Pelosi has done it often enough that it is often a detriment to the party. She can be a rallying point for the opposition and give them strength and motivation.
That's debatable. She IS an incredible fund raiser, and given the other choices, probably the best one for SOH currently... but consider that the Dems LOST the House under her watch, too. Many think that's because she's stuck in the past politically. That's probably what has Dems against her.
Come on now, let's be honest, Nancy Pelosi did nothing... like literally nothing. She didnt have to do anything. Trump's people came up with a very shortsighted idea that had a zero percent chance of working. All Nancy Pelosi had to do was sit back and watch everything take care of itself.
Her signature achievement to this point was barely passing watered down Healthcare reform whilst controlling all three branches of government. Slow clap? I don't like her. But she actually didn't **** the bed here, like democrats seem to have been programmed to do for the last 8 years or so, so for that I give her props.
For 5.6 billion, the democrats could achieve massive amounts of leverage here. Instead they are too focused on bucking up to Trump.
She and Reid lost the House and Senate by pushing Obamacare knowing well that it would cost seats. Obama gave them the keys and they gave him the votes and credit. Passing legislation that's incumbent suicide and with benefits no one would see for years is an example of a principled stand l, I guess. I thought cons hated her because she's from SF and a female leader who's the exact opposite of Laura Bush. It's pretty easy to foist her face as a symbol of "limousine liberal values", especially when the presenter is bustier and 40 years younger.
5.6 billion is chump change in the budget. If opening the government was as important as you implied, they would have given in from day one.
"Give me 5.6 billion to throw away on a vanity project or I'll shut down the government" Yeah, no thanks. Not a good idea to negotiate with people of that mindset. Let them hang themselves and learn from their own stupidity so that next time they might negotiate without using the American people as a human shield.
