Did anyone catch this? Shaq Uses Profanity on Live TV LOS ANGELES - Shaquille O'Neal was so frustrated with the officiating during the Lakers' 84-83 victory in Toronto on Sunday that he twice used profanities on live television. O'Neal used profanities in a postgame interview with Los Angeles-based KCAL-TV. He said the fans came to watch the players, not the officials, then used one profanity while complaining that officials were "taking over the game." When informed he was on live television, O'Neal replied with a vulgarity. O'Neal scored 36 points to lead the Lakers.
Yeah I saw that and quite honestly, was shocked. Was the officiating THAT bad? Shaq whines too much. It's not like they lost the game and he had terrible numbers or anything. I think he was just pissed about the All-Star snubbing.
I watched the whole game, and the officiating was bad, but as usual, far to the benefit of the Lakers. Carter drove to the hoop and was clearly fouled on 5 or 6 occassions and got no call, including the very last play of the game, where he was driving for the winning bucket, and was obviously grabbed on the arm, shoulder, and neck by two Lakers. No call. Carter, who earlier in the game had gotten a techincal for complaining about the non-calls on the Lakers, chased down the ref and heatedly argued his case for a long time after the game was over. I do agree that, as is often the case, O'Neal had to put up with more contact than most players...but on the other hand, he gets away with more as well. And there was a bad call late in the game ( 4 or 5 minutes left) where Bosh got a block that should have been a goaltend. But in general, the officiating far and away favoured the Lakers, and Carter in no way got the 'star treatment' despite playing very hard and driving all game.
He said something about the officials trying to take over the Fing game, then Jim Gray said "Shaq, we're on live" and Shaq said "I dont give a sh*t.
I don't find this surprising from Shaq. He's shown for a long time that he has no class and this following his "trillion people" comment shows that.
i see yao getting more votes than shaq as less indicative of yao skill and more showing towards the fact that people are just getting sick of the big aristotle.
a) the lakers ever complaining about officiating should get them thrown out of the league permanently for disrespecting stern after all that he's done for them. b) SC just showed some highlights and two of the fouls on shaq looked like noncalls. c) i'm sure shaq knocked about 10 people over that should've been called charges anyway. d) HOW IN THE HELL DID CARTER NOT GET FOULED ON THAT LAST PLAY. i only got to see the play once but i have a real hard time believing they got all ball. this isn't like a little bump and you just let them play at the end. you kinda should have to call 1st degree assault.
Shaq said something to the effect of ****ing refs and then jim gray said "shaq we're on live tv" and shaq told him he doesnt give a ****
Oh come now, Shaq is the self proclaimed 'idiot prankster'. We all know this, so this should clense him of any wrong doing! His above remarks, his remarks towards Yao last year...c'mon...he is just 'joking'! Dont you get it? He is just an 'idiot prankster'!
i also hate how he is the worst at postgame interviews, he is a cliche machine. So shaq, how did you and your team manage to overcome that huge deficit in the 4th quarter? "Well, you know, we just played hard, gave it 110%, yknow, tried to play our best, pass it to the open man and knock down shots or play it inside, we just played hard, and yknow and knock down shots." Shaq, what is it like playing with half your stars on the injured list? "Well, yknow, we just try to play hard and give it 110%, pass it to the open man or play it hard inside, push the game and score points. try to score more points than the opponent. just play hard and focus on the game." So, news reports are saying that your wife is now cheating on you with Earl Boykins, who she claims is a "larger" man, what do you say to those allegations? "well, you know we just go out there on the court and give it our all, push the ball and play hard, give it 110%....
INDIANAPOLIS -- Shaquille O'Neal was suspended without pay by the NBA on Monday, one day after using obscene language and publicly criticizing the officials during a television interview. The suspension was announced just hours after O'Neal issued a statement apologizing for the comments he made following the Lakers' 84-83 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday. O'Neal will serve the suspension Monday night, sitting out a game against the Eastern Conference-leading Indiana Pacers. It will cost him nearly $295,000. Lakers coach Phil Jackson called the punishment "rather severe and childish in some ways." Jackson said he thought a fine would have been appropriate and that the fans would be penalized by not being able to see O'Neal in the Lakers' lone trip to Indianapolis. "The league is known for its vindictiveness," Jackson said. "But we didn't anticipate a suspension." O'Neal scored a season-high 36 points against the Raptors in his third game back after missing 12 because of a strained right calf, but was angered by the officiating. He made that clear in his postgame interview on KCAL-TV _ conducted almost immediately after the game. "My message to (commissioner) David Stern is get some people in there that understand the game and don't try to take over the ... game because people pay good money to see good athletes play," O'Neal said. When reminded he was on live TV, O'Neal responded with another profanity before the interview continued. "My comments were made out of frustration in the heat of the moment," O'Neal said in the statement released Monday by the Lakers. "But I realize that my choice of words was inappropriate and again, I would like to apologize." The game in Indiana was the second of a seven-game road trip for the Lakers, who played without injured stars Kobe Bryant and Karl Malone, as well as O'Neal. Jackson said "there was no precedence" for the suspension, but that the team will accept it and move on. General manager Mitch Kupchak informed Jackson of the news hours after the team was game-planning to get O'Neal the ball early and often against the Pacers, Jackson said. "I didn't get any satisfaction from their reasoning," Jackson said. It was the latest in what has been a season full of injuries and drama for the Lakers. "There's never been anything like this in my tenure," Jackson said of the injuries and Bryant's legal troubles. Pacers forward Ron Artest said he would have preferred to see O'Neal in the lineup Monday night. "I would rather have him play," said Artest, who added that he thought the suspension was deserved. "You don't want to play against a team that's not full strength." http://www.sportsline.com/nba/story/7057194 Of course, Phil never gets use to the idea that the NBA is not actually out to help him win championships.
