OK, that seems reasonable. Now, if the need and situation still exists after the trade deadline and buyout market is over, and seeing that you don't care if you lose him this Summer, would you convert him and make him playoff eligible? Or, no matter what the needs might still be, would you make him rot in the gleague as warning to all future 2-ways against thinking they'll ever get more than a 3yr, team-friendly, minimum contract for signing a 2-way with the Rockets.
Oh, last follow-up question: If you say let him rot for not signing despite need, which is fine (sets precedence where future players might not waste our time by even signing the 2-ways with us), what about Nunnally, or other 10-days. If Nunnally signs a 2nd 10-day (word is he might), and he does well this time, would you cut him if he doesn't sign a multi-year, or let him sign on a remainder-of-the-year deal to fill a need in the playoffs?
I think you misunderstand my position. I do not hate House. Not personal for me. I just do not value House as much as others. His value is highest now due to Rockets depth and injury issues. But his value is tied to his availability, his cost, his attitude, etc. - not just his ability to be a rotation role player on court. Little to no value in G League. Even less value when Clint and Paul return to starting line up. Value will disappear almost entirely by trade deadline when more talented and proven players become available. In the offseason, his value will be afterthought because there will be other players with same or better ability for his role at less cost. More options (draft, FA, trade, etc.) makes House less valuable.
Where was House before Rockets picked him up? What was he making? How did his career trajectory look? $4.2M guaranteed for 3 years playing for hometown team and contending for championship alongside a once in a generation player like Harden who magnifies your profile is not purgatory. House made a poor career move, his body of work is too limited to generate the type of offseason payday he believes is coming.
Maybe we’ll acquire a legitimate starting caliber SF before the deadline. Maybe we’ll find one via buyout. All I know is this: this team has been noticeably worse without House and as far as our SF situation goes, we’re barely hanging on. I’m not a an advocate of just giving the player whatever he wants and I understand there are many variables to consider. Just saying, if this Capela Part II, can we just fast forward to the part where we get him back so we can focus on winning games?
Wait, are you saying you wouldn't even sign him to the 3yr, multi-year, if he caves. I assumed you would always sign him if he caves. So, that's off the table, because "Value will disappear almost entirely" soon. OK, maybe that's the root of my misunderstanding of your position: House had a short window of opportunity, and was offered a reward, but it was a take-it or leave-it proposition.
If that's the case then I'm sorry for being mistaken. And of course there are scenarios in which I'd convert him. This isn't personal. If we're going to convert him it has to be in the best interests of the team and not just giving up our leverage for impatient fans. There's nothing wrong with preemptively discussing our options for retaining him. However, there is a large segment of the fanbase that wants things done yesterday. The "Do something Morey!" mentality is pretty annoying when doing something now may actually limit our options to do something later in regards to buyout targets. He wants the rest of the MLE or the ability to be a free agent ASAP. No need to agree to either at this juncture. Yes, I realize the irony in complaining about the complainers.
Then he should have took it. If it were me, I would still give him the 3 year guarantee but he needs to take it before buyout and trade deadline. But again, I'm not Morey. Who knows what Morey deals are being made/attempted as we dialog.
I honestly don't know - depends on what else is available. If they think he has future potential, I'd imagine they would work something out. I seriously doubt he will want to take the whole season off for a chance to score a good contract.
House is better than Ennis and Clark. A g-league player beat both of them including GG to start at small forward for our team. He plays great off of Harden and Cp3 and Clint. How many guys play well with our three stars as well as he does. Some guys are special to a team he is one of them
Cannot deny that he plays off Harden well but he chose to play hardball with Rockets and Rockets likely moving on.
Any idea what he wants. I know he was offered Clark's 3 yr(s) / $3,677,585 contract but guaranteed. How much more is he looking for?
House would not have affected outcome vs. 6ers. If you think otherwise, more is the pity. Until CP3 and Clint returns, Harden is carrying this team on his back.
I'm not necessarily saying I'd give him any MLE money... At this point I'd offer him a 2 year min contract... I'd run him the balance of year and hope his stock goes up (as both Morey and House's agent seem to believe it will...) Then he's trade bait for anyone that wants to acquire and potentially re-sign him thereafter... If that doesnt fly... I'd convert him... use him as sparingly as possible to best help our opportunity to win games... and hope I dont boost his stock too much that he gets ridiculous offers in the off season and I can retain him as a rfa at a cheap price... if his stock goes through the roof... so be it... I'd take the benefit of whatever play caused his stock to rise - and he can go on his merry way with whatever team wants to throw big money at him... Then every conversation i have trying to lure guys into taking a cheap 2 way contract (like a 2 way was a non starter for Nunnaly) I'd say "there's a real opportunity for you... House had a 2 way and he parlayed it into x million the next year..." but locking a guy up for 3 years,,, while he feels he was slighted (whether right or wrong) prob isnt gonna end well... jus sayin...
The only way he would have enough to get the entire MLE is if he went thru a very successful run with Rockets in the playoffs. The thing I wish we could do is sign him for this year and next year for 2.5 mil with a player option for next year
Today I learned there are going to be players available in the summer at less cost than a 3 year guaranteed minimum. I guess we'll be getting players on 4 year minimums AND they will be able to play well. Looking forward to getting good players on that contract.
of course he wouldnt have changed the outcome of the 6ers game... he's a decent to good rotational role player not a superstar.... but he's a step up from Ennis... my gawd, to converse with some people you'd think I was advocating giving the guy a max contract... I'm not the one on the side that's so twisted on getting him to sign a 3 year deal - like he's the second coming of MJ that we dare not miss out on... lol I dont understand why people that think he's nothing special are so hell bent on getting him committed to a 3 year deal... doesnt seem very logical... lol
