All of 2 minutes. Didn’t mention MLK by name. https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5c45ef7ce4b0bfa693c5fc9c/amp
I don't think there is any way Trump does MLK day and comes out ahead. This was probably the least bad of the bad outcomes. Not showing up would have been provocative and insulting. Probably what I expect he would have liked to have done. Gushing about MLK like Steve King tried to do would have probably been more insulting as it would appear fake. I absolutely understand why Steve King tried, but he would have been better off doing nothing. The president, though, can't do that. One of the main jobs of the President is ceremonial. This is probably close to the least bad outcome that Trump could have managed. Maybe a touch more enthusiasm, but you can't expect miracles. If you are expecting Trump to become a warm and fuzzy guy who exudes empathy for his fellow man and their struggles, you are maybe expecting to much based on what you are working with. That's not really his wheelhouse. There is no possible universe where his actions on MLK Day becomes a major asset for him politically with the majority of Americans. He slipped by with a passing D minus and he'll make up the grade or not in other areas.
Trump will have his own monument in Washington D.C. one day. Bringing the country together like the other great men above.
LOL...2 Minutes! Why even bother? No mention on why you are laying a wreath? They are not even trying.
