That's funny. I really don't see why you can't just admit that Yao playing like a girl is hurting the Chinese draft stock. Sure they're still scouting Asia for future prospects, but they did the same thing everywhere else. It just so happens Asia is the last fronteir....that's right, the LAST unexplored frontier. Just because Yao ming is in the League doesn't mean scouts would not have gone there anyway to recruit. So, do you think on nights like this when Yao barely makes double digit points and scrapes a few rebounds together HELPS the draft stock? Yao was and is the "treasure" of the Chinese basketball association so I really think you're just in denial. If yao was putting up 20/10 then you can say "of course Yao is making it easier for future chinese players" When yao's putting up 12/8...enough said.
You should re-read my post. The subject of this post was that Yao is hurting the draft stock. I merely mentioned being ashamed of him and his play as a side issue. If he wasn't hyped up then his performances would not be EMBARASSING would they not? I for one find it embarassing to have defended Yao when everyone said he'll be another Shawn Bradley and then have to watch him play like a little girl on national television. Hell, at least Shawn Bradley played with some toughness ie. threw some elbows and got into some fights. You can't say the same for Yao and probably won't for a long, long time.
I don't think I need to re-read your post. Your points were well taken and responded accordingly. After Yao had a 37 points game you wondered if he can be MVP, after Yao had a poor game you suggest he's the shame of 1.3 billion people and he's hurting the Chinese draft stock. You stance seems to change as frequently as a baby in diarrhea changes diapers. Your behavior pattern is over-reactionary from the beginning and your so called fanship is to treat Yao like a cow, cheer him and hype him up when he's milking today, kick him and whip him when he's not tomorrow, without giving him any benefit of doubt. Have you heard that one game does not make or break a player? Can you say Yao wasn't getting aggressive lately? You should feel embarrassed about yourself first for placing too much MVP-like expectation on Yao, falling on your face, then lashing it out on him. If you take it so hard after each game, maybe you should stop being a Yao fan, if you are really one in the first place. Earlier in the thread you said Yao might be Mutombo the next year, now you say he's not as tough as Bradley and probably won't be for a long, long time. How about some consistency dude? Now, don't blame me for the harsh words cuz that's exactly your attitude towards Yao.
you are embarrassing all the asians in here by acting so damn sensitive. Its okay to be race conscious but you are doing it all wrong.
What hurts Chinese prospects most is their mysterious ages....Yi, Tang and many other "young" players...I'm glad that Yao's age is real. NBADraft.net had a new article about Chinese players recently.
Sorry Silentfan, but you're really full of ****e this time. I feel bad for Yao for having a so called fan like you. You're really over reacting man. I hope you don't invest in stocks cuz' you'll lose all your money by over reacting to the slight ups and downs. Yao is just a pro baller, no more no less. This is not the 50's man you're sounding like an idiot by bringing Jackie Robinson into the issue An Asian playing proball in the States is not that big of a deal. This is a Global Village that we're having here. Yao is still adjusting. He was just a project, a hyped up project that is, when he first got drafted. He is already ahead of his schedule by developing into an impacting NBA regular. I've watched the entire 40 minutes yesterday and Yao did not get many opportunties at all. The Rox as a team had poor ball movements and some of the entry pass from the guards were plain horrid. I felt that Yao had lost his calm in the 2nd half and it affected his shots. Anyhow, bad games come and go. You don't make the winning shot before you miss most of them. Also I could tell you that by 2010 you're gonna see various styles of Chinese players in the NBA.
I'll tell you one thing. I am Asian and I am proud of Yao on his play and the way he conducts himself last season and this season. I think that he plays quite well abeit some inconsistency and worth the # 1 draft pick. If I recall the #1 draft pick a year before Yao is no where to be found and No 1 draft pick this year is not that much better than Yao last year. I feel ashamed that some fellow Asians like you who place the blame in one young guy who did not fullfill your your expectation quick enough. I feel ashamed that instead of encouraging and supporting him which we should be the one who give him more than anyone else, some fellow Asians just push down him and not even give him enough time before judging and labelling him as a flop. Like it or not, he will improve at his own pace. If you feel so ashamed to have the same shin as him, I suggest you wear a face mask when you go out
Edit: If you feels so ashamed to have same skin or being Asian like Yao, I suggest you wearing a face mask when you go out. Better yet, enter the NBA and become a dominant center so you can correct al Yao wrong doing to you by yourself.
By the way, please do not call your self YOF. I do not like this term when I was labelled. I still do not like it. However since I am already labelled, I do not want to have anything associated with you. You are not anyone fan. You only concern about yourself. Yao is just a tool to get you your "Asian pride". Face it, if you want to be proud of yourself you need to do it by yourself. Place your success or failure being an Asian on a 23 year-old basketball player will not gonna work.
The crux of the matter is that Americans think that all others [the majority of the World] should have their mind set and be like them when playing Basketball. Its about time that we realise that the rest of our brothers and sisters are not of our mentality and we should just accept them as being naturally themselves. Yao Ming will never be the Center that the majority of fans wish for. Its a mistake to think of another Shaq or Hakeem as Yao will only be Yao Ming a very different type player to what we are used to. This is a new era and will require patience.
Well, pardon me for thinking AHEAD about the next generation of Chinese NBA hopefuls. You go ahead and ride your moral high horse and chastize everyone else for living in the real world. NBA General Manager's don't give a rat's ass about morals and "cultural strengths" they care about results. Yao is being handsomely paid and will be even more handsomely paid for doing what he does here in the NBA. Don't forget that. He has to, dare I say it, EARN his money and his draft placement. Don't turn this into a silentfan issue, you're just dodging the point. Go ahead and carry on with your blindness, it's quite amusing.
Exactly. I said the same exact thing: 1) Yao has high expectations placed on him by the "majority" 2) Yao will "never" be the Center that the majority wants -----------------------FOLLOWING DEDUCTIVE REASONING-------------- 3) Yao is hurting the Chinese Draft Stock. Game, set match.
I said he would reach mutombo-class level meaning a little higher than Rik Smits but inbetween the top echelon. Mutombo is not goin to be in the hall of fame or top 50 like david Robinson, Shaq, Ewing, Etc. Pardon the confusion. Secondly, my post about him being an MVP IF he could keep up 30/10 for the rest of the year was for debate sake, not because I actually thought he would do it. I already explained myself on the matter, you should read every post and not just the first one and the last one. My worthiness as a fan is not the issue here, you can debate that issue on numerous posters on this board. Stick to the topic please. You're dodging can only be seen as a lack of having a rebuttal to my original comments.
Ichiro? You know, most Americans don't even know who he is. Who watches baseball these days? You ask 10 people if they know Ichiro and the same question for Yao ming, about 3 people will know who ichiro is and 9/10 will know who Yao ming is. That's not even a fair comparison.
And another thing, I didn't say there would be no more chinese players entering the draft. I swear, I have to spell everything out for some of you. I said Yao is hurting Chinese draft stock with his play in the league. Does that mean there will be no more chinese players recruited and drafted? No. Does that mean GM's will think twice or three times about recruiting another 7 footer who is even smaller than Yao ming? You bet your ass they will.
