That has nothing to do with the loss today. Yao couldn't get positon on Jason Collins!!! A 7'6, 300 pound center shouldn't have that problem. Yao was once again ineffective. When you try to run your offense inside/out and your #1 option can't even get open you aren't going to fair very well.
In this instance, Yao's game (or lack thereof) had nothing to do with Steve. Yao just could not get open. He was out-muscled for the entire game and when he finally did get some open shots, he couldn't knock them down. Just a rough game for Yao overall.
I really hope the Rockets pathetic play this week can be blamed on fatigue and a lack of focus due to the Super Bowl being in town. Not that it makes it any easier to accept the pathetic 2nd half showings in their last 3 games, but at least it means their level of play should improve starting Monday night in Phoenix.
Did you see how many open looks Yao got today, he should be automatic when he gets anywhere near the basket, he missed 3 shots 3 feet away from the basket. We have the notion to blame individuals when it's a team loss, but Cato's lack of offensive ability is really killing us.
i have a feeling phoenix is gonna tourch us. they are a young team and gonna out run us. And the matrix will take cato to school.
i think i was just overacting. But it just seems like that been happening the whole season; but steve has been in a slump so i am probably wrong.
Same observation. Also he's too keen to go out of the paint to do screens for his teammates. He really moves too often and too fast which tired him out and which caused difficult passing to him.
The Rocket SHOULD win that game, but they SHOULD have won at least 2 out of 3 this week, so we know that means squat. I hope they do take care of business against Phoenix, cuz otherwise about 1000 trade threads are gonna hit this board all at once.
When you're 3 feet or less away from a basket and your 7'6'' you'r not suppose take weak ass off balanced shot. You go up strong and dunk it.
What I define as a #1 player is a guy who has the talent and the attitude to be dominant. I think Yao definitely has the ability to be a #1, but his attitude is never going to be one to bring fear into an opponent's heart. He feels that his role on the court is the same as a guy like JJ or Cuttino. He doesn't envision himself being the go-to guy who must take it over. I don't think this will change because that's something you can see immediately when someone goes into the league. This game just illustrates that he is but a secondary player like a Brad Miller or a Vlade Divac. He cannot be a Shaq or Duncan.
He IS the biggest sissy. He maybe tried couple games being aggressive, but his nature is being sissy. I am sorry to realize he is not the guy you can build a team around him. He maybe a solid number 2 or number 3 player, but he will never be the franchise player. He simply don't have the desire to be the number one. From now on , don't call me a YOF, I am not. I am not his fan anymore.
Please copy and past that to the "If you were a Rockets executive how would you get more people to the games?" thread. -VL PS - Today was another pathetic effort. Incredible.
What the hell did Van Gundy say at half time that completely changed the energy level of the wole team? We came out like deer in headlights, standing around, dribbling out the clock...it was a shocking transformation. The Nets battled hard to take Yao out of his offense but he still, he has to rebound. We went from shooting the lights out to can't make a lay-up. The officiating went from fair to blind. JVG has got to get a techincal midway through the 3rd., just to make a point. Hell with that utter lethargy, he needs to get two and get kicked out, something to shock this team back to life. The whole team failed to show for the second half for the second game in a row. But they will probably still be a P'diddy's party and the all-star game when they should be too embarrased to show up.
