Oh yum, a Malt beer. Why not Karbach 40/40 or some Strawberry Hill while they're at peak **** production?

Are they planning on selling these at gas stations with a free pack of Grape or Cherry cigarillos?

Hard pass - will fail just like their regular menu of foul beers.

If we signed Marwin, we’d be cutting (or trading) White and Kemp for him, or just eating the $ we gave to Diaz.

Marwin isn’t an upgrade over these.

At this point Marwin would be great insurance at every position but I'd rather see DK back on a fair deal.

No matter what we aren't cutting White. That cat is gonna rake. Trading Kemp is the answer, something along the JD Davis route should be easy enough. Ideally Kemp for a lefty specialist.

I can see Diaz being flipped as part of a package for Realmuto or an ace pitcher. 4 years of control, relatively cheap, good bat and defense. We got him for basically nothing (a guy we'd have lost in the Rule 5 Draft anyway).

I would like that. Give Kemp regular playing time elsewhere, get some decent prospects in return.

I believe Diaz can be optioned to the minors. So if Marwin returned that’s probably what would happen. Seems to me to be a pretty big waste of resources, but I know Crane loves him some Marwin as does everybody in the org.

Unless Brantley, Altuve, Correa, White, or Gurriel is injured this spring, I don’t think there’s a place for Kemp on the 25 man roster, although they may go with 13 position players to accommodate him.

It seems to me that we have options already onboard to replace Marwin. Lesser expensive ones. So before we think about bringing him back, shouldn't we consider that the money required to land Marwin might be spent on greater needs? Pitching? Bigger bat?

I'm almost positive the Marwin being back talk was just lip service. For a guy that did as much for us, you aren't gonna publicly say there's no way in hell he's coming back.

But there's no way in hell he's coming back, I would be absolutely shocked.

On paper yeah we have the pieces to let Marwin walk, but the guys in the locker room love him and all want him back. He's good friends with the core guys like altuve, correa and bregman. He was sitting court side at the rockets game the other night with bregs and jim crane. Guys like mccullers have said they love marwin and hope he stays as well. He is replaceable, but i love the guy too and hope they can bring him back at a reasonable deal. It will definitely help with getting some of our core guys to sign extensions the next couple of years.

If we can get Marwin back, i would bet that reddick gets shopped around and it would allow diaz to be a nice trade piece for a pitcher or realmuto.

Agreed. I’m pretty sure pitching is at the top of the list. Crane references it every interview I’ve heard over the last few weeks.
I tend to agree with this as well. Marwin played a big role while he was here and Crane appreciates it, but the team has too many other needs right now. Just don’t see the Astros bringing him back.

Marlins need a SS; C, 1B, and pitching are the areas they don’t have either a top prospect or a decent young player. Maybe a package of Diaz, Bukauskas, Cionel, Stassi, and Reed would interest them. Bonus for Miami that Perez and Diaz are Cubans.

I would love to see Marwin back, but honestly I think Diaz is a better player, with much more upside. I would think he is a big piece going forward.

Marwin isn’t coming back. As much as is sucks to see him go, the writing went up on the wall with the Diaz acquisition. Maybe Marwin gets a mural or something nice for his place is Astros history, but the only way he returns is by way of some radical roster change, and lets be honest...that isn’t happening. We’re not blowing up the team or making drastic changes, not off a 103-win season. JL draws a lot of comparisons to Morey, who infamously stated that you don’t win by paying the Chandler Parsons, you win by finding them (and replacing them as fiscally responsible as possible).

There just isn’t room for Marwin, White, Reddick, Kemp, Yuli, and Jake all on one roster, let alone Diaz. Hopefully Marwin gets paid and goes to the NL so we don’t have to cheer against him.

Currently there is a log jam in the outfield and i'd imagine a trade is in the works to try and flip a few guys like kemp, jake and reddick. I think that's the only way Marwin gets brought back because yeah there is no room for all the guys on the 25 man roster.

I think you have to look at the lines.
If the Astros are truly the Mystery team like some say on Bryce Harper.
You have to think Josh Reddick, Yuli Gurriel, Jake Marisnick nad Chris Devenski are being shopped to move some Salary around.

My thoughts on Marwin are as follows. If you cost more then 8M and you want more then 2 yrs with out options for 3rd and 4th.
Then sir you are barking up the wrong tree.
Diaz needs his shot to play.

I have no love for Marwin and his I'm gonna set down for 5 months and not hit the ball like I do in the play offs and make it a waste of time during the season to start me.

    On another note.

What will it take to get J.T. Realmuto

    Really?

Hmmm, well he is a 103 OPS+ career hitter that sometimes gets streaky in the right direction come the playoffs and the wrong direction through periods in the regular season. But not lazy or disinterested in the regular season as you seem to imply.

IMO, he is more or less average. The money and contract he seems to be looking for would materialize in a heartbeat if he were steadily above average.

But he is not above average. He is just very versatile. We have enough of that on our team already.

If we were going to add another Marwin like player I think Dietrich would be more likely than resigning Marwin. Dietrich never had the career year that Marwin had in 2017 but his career offensive numbers are better than Marwin's almost across the board. He has a higher OBP, OPS, and OPS +. Marwin has a slightly higher batting average. Dietrich would also cost a lot less.

I don't think either are Astros in 2019. They don't have room for another utility guy.

While we certainly could use some budget room for a Harper signing, I don't see Gurriel, Marisnick or Devenski going anywhere. Reddick would def be gone.
