I agree that Cassell deserves to be there much more than Francis. I've always been bothered by style over substance when it comes to sports stars, IE Anna Kournikova. Even though I'm a huge Rox fan it still bothers me that Francis is starting over Cassell. It bothers me even more that Cassell wasn't even among the top voters for the All Star game. The guy is playing at his best level on the best team in the West and the success of the T-Wolves is due largely to Cassell. If any guard deserves to start for the West in the ASG its Cassell and its too bad that most NBA fans don't see that.
what will it take to convince you Yao being voted as an All Star has nothing to with the fact that he's Chinese? or you're just in denial?
I think its great for Houston to represent...Just like last year, Shaq was injured and allowed Yao to get in, however, I believe Yao is getting better and will soon be able to win head to head... Also, I love Franchise, but he hasn't played like an All-Star...
I personally think Kournikova is trash. In either case, she did not need to play tennis to have certainly people drool over her. She could have just become a 3rd rate p*rn star. In any case, there was no need to pretend she had talent and keep up this charade.
With all the negative posts and smack being talked about Steve around here, I'm surprised he made it. I guess the same Chinese folks who voted for Yao threw in their votes for Steve. Personally, I haven't seen anything from Steve this season that would qualify him to be on the All-Star squad as either a starter or back-up. Somebody likes him I guess but he has had a difficult season since he had to become un-selfish under JVG's plan. I guess I underestimated by a long shot how popular Steve is.
I've got it...most single coverage in a game. If other teams gave Miller the same coverage as Yao, then Peja and Jackson would score 30 a night! Here's a good question for you, What would our record look like with Miller on our team instead of Yao? You think we would have won more games? People say that Yao is streaky but Miller has had plenty of bad games this year too, you just don't see them because they have so many other guys to carry the load. Miller is joke as a post up player, I can't count the number of times he's been flat out punked when trying to make a post move. He camps out at the free throw line and shoots wide open jumpers or passes to their awesome guards and forwards. Its funny wow open he is at times, strange he's shooting a couple of percentage points lower than Yao, yet Yao is the one seeing multiple double and triple teams a night.
I have a dream. One day when Yao and Steve start fro ASG, there are no arguments/threads like this in any team's fan forum. Then we should win a couple of champions. -Littlefish
Let me correct myself. I'm certainly not bothered looking at her but I still can't believe anyone considers her a professional tennis player.
He talks a lot too. "The ball my precious... Gives me the ball my precious... Nasty tricksy Rocketsss... AHHH the foul theys hurts us... Why do the referrees lets them hurts uss sooo...."
GREAT POST! Clutch should make this quote a sticky so maybe we wouldn't have all these "player X doesn't deserve to start, player Y deserves it more" threads
The problem is, all star game is a game. And shaq will be a SUB for Yao. That somehow implies Yao is a much better player and make Shaq loss a bit face. Maybe that's the reason some people can't get over it. If it's just an award like 'most popular player' it would be easier to accept.
I live in Minnesota and Jim Petersen, yeah the former Rox player Jim Petersen, said during the T-Wolves / Lakers broadcast. He basically said that in regards to Cassell not starting but also added that he believed there were several other centers who should be starting over Yao and singled out Shaq and Erik Dampier. He also stated that in addition to Cassell several guards could be starting over Francis.
Are you trying to say that your view is objective, whereas the views of those who voted Yao are subjective? I believe anyone's view is subjective. You do not have to see any analyst or commentator's statement to judge who should be an all-star. Aren't an all-star voted by fans? Actually, I I haven't seen a single analyst/commentator state that Yao should be an all-star, since I seldom listen to them.
My thoughts exactly. Steve DEFINITELY deserves the spot in spite of the all the steve should score less and assist more OR he had many assists but couldnt shoot or some other s__t been thrown out there feel better now
Shaquille O'Neal, when asked how he felt about being beat out by Yao Ming as the starting center for the NBA All Star game. "That's cool," O'Neal said. "Where he's from there are 2 trillion people." Shaq has no class. If the tables were turned and Yao had lost by a narrow margin, Yao would have replied with something like, "Shaquille deserved it, he has had a great year and a great NBA career", can't ever see Yao saying "Shaq won because all the black people in America stuffed the ballot box for him". The All Star game is a popularity contest and not a measure of who the best player is at a given position. I would vote for Yao not because he is the better player but because he embodies sportsmanship and professionalism more than Shaq. .
