Do these ex-rockets EVER have anything good to say about the rockets? I heard them after the Spurs/Kings game talking about how Yao and Steve didn't deserve to be starters. When Kenny was giving his explanation, he stuttered several times and gave a very shaky reason "they both haven't had that great of a season when others have had better seasons." Oh, as in Shaq had a good season so far with all his injuries? They BOTH also had carmelo anthony and Lebron James as their All-Star backups. LMAO. Kenny smith even put Antoine walker on the west squad and said "Antoine is the best Maverick right now." another LMAO.
Steve didn't deserve to be a starter, or an all star at all. Yao/Shaq is a toss up. Who cares though, Yao and Shaq are the two best centers and they both made it/will make it. Brad Miller will make it as a Forward or as a Center, whatever way they want to classify him, it doesn't matter.
Say it to Charles face... and get thrown through a window. Barkely was the best. As for what they said, the Walker thing is a joke. Steve doesn't deserve to start over Sam I am or Bibby. Yao should start because O'neal is hurt.
I'm trying to look at the arguments objectively. As a basketball fan and not a fan of the Rockets or Yao. Shaq over Yao is not that crazy. Shaq has been hurt, but he's played the majority of the games. It's not like he's been hurt for half the season. A lot of people gave me a lot of heat for saying Brad Miller deserves to be an all-star more than Yao over a week ago and I'm still sticking with that. Yao's game vs. the Magic was awesome, but he's still so streaky. I think you can argue Yao, Shaq or B. Miller but it's not a clear cut case for any of them. In fact I haven't seen a single analyst/commentator state that Yao should be an all-star. So far I've only seen Shaq and Brad Miller.
What they said about Shaq over Yao is not that crazy. Neither of them putting Kirilenko on the team is CRAZY.
While I agree Steve doesn't deserve to start, they could have at least given Yao more respect than that besides being Rocket bashers like they always are. Now if they had more respectable players on their backup rosters besides Antoine Walker, Lebron James, and Carmelo Anthony I wouldn't be saying anything. More and more I realize that Charles and Kenny are media guys afterall so I guess its their job to be LeBron and Carmello whores.
AND THE SINGLE-MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN ALL THIS: The All-Star Starters are who the FANS want to see, not necessarily who could win in a 1v1 at that position like some of these ex-player snobs seem to think. What reason do fans have to like Shaq other than his play on the court? Even then, a lot of fans and players including don't respect the way he plays.
Kenny mentioned that SF and Yao don't deserve it cuz these ROX have not played as well as ROX of past...No S Sherlock...like when you were leading the team, right. You weren't jack S w/o Hakeem. By that rationale, why did he pick Carmelo and LBJ...cuz of their stunning records?
silent is right about the Fan's choices. That's what the all-star game is all about. However, when it comes down to All-NBA First Team, my leaders are Sam I am Kobe KG TD Brad Miller I'm backing this from a fantasy slant.
Just thinking of what Barkley would do if someone told him to STFU like in the threads title. The rest of my post was the actual response to your points.
Without bothering to convey my opinion on this subject, (Yao deserves it, Steve doesn't....DAMNIT) I find the title of this thread funny considering the name of the poster who started it.
Brad Miller has good numbers, but look at our game with Sac. Sure he had good numbers, but that's because we asked him to beat us. Most of his shots were wide-open jump shots generated by the Sacramento offense. He's not a great defender or intimidator, and I haven't seen him do any post up moves either. Oh, and he spends half his playing time at the 4 (whenever Vlade is on the court). So what makes him worthy of mention as competition for Yao at the 5 again?
Since it's fan voting, I say we just enjoy it. I know I voted for Steve, Yao and Kat a few hundred times. This rocks for the Rockets!
I think it's assumed that saying STFU to a man thats 6'4" 300+lbs with a bad attitude in his face would result in violence. That's the beauty of anonymous messageboards. Welcome to the Internet. If it would make you feel better why don't you email Charles and send him a URL link to this board so he can dignify us all with a response.
B.Miller? Are you kidding me? He played 4!!!!!!!!!! What we are talking about is center!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he played 5 and get better number, he deserve. So what? He should compete with TD now!!!!!!!!!!!
With Steve, it looks bad for him to start when he shouldn't even be there. I'm a big fan of Franchise, but this has simply been his worst season and he has not done anything that merits his inclusion. Yao starting isn't the biggest deal, if only because he would have be voted in by the coaches anyway, unlike last year. I also don't feel that bad for Shaq, since hearing the reports that the Laker fans turn in something around 10% of their punch card ballots at the games. Evan
Hey, Stevie Haters -- SF's 3rd strt in ASG has to make him more valuable for trade purposes. Hey, Stevie Lovers -- let's enjoy him being there representing, along with YM!
