Not behind a firewall. My friend has the same problem with his, too. I don't know what the deal is. I checked all the settings, looked for some answers, but didn't find anything. At this point, though, I've learned to live with it. It's not that bad, really. And the upside of tabbed browsing and effective pop-up blocking make up for it.
Like shouldnt tabs pop up when say i am on the boards and i go to another website shouldnt the clutch bbs be in some type of tab so i can just click that little tab to go straight back to clutch instead of having to hit back or type in the clutch site again?, or how do the tabs work?
Install TabBrowser extensions, then go to its settings. I think you can do it there. If it still doesn't work, you can have the same thing happen by hold down Ctrl- when you click on a link. It'll open the link in a new tab.
Click the link with your middle button if you have one - that should open up a new tab. Also, on some skins, you can click the home button with your middle button and it will pop up a new tab for your homepage. Another great thing about Mozilla Firebird is that you can set several tabs as your homepages. For example, you want to open up the bbs AND ESPN.com both for homepages. Just make sure you have the tabs on the pages you want, and then Tools-->Options and under the homepage option, click use current. The next time you open the browser, it should work.
What I really love is bookmarking tabs -- it works differently in Mozilla than in Firebird (I kind of preferred Mozilla's), but in Firebird, you can organize a bunch of bookmarks in a folder, then right-click on the folder and go to "Open in Tabs". I also love having tabs open in the background. What I'll do is say, on a site like the BBS, or Fark or something like that, I'll middle-click every link I'm interested in, then go through the tabs one at a time. That way, I never wait for a page to load, and there's no forward clicking, backward clicking, etc. Really makes browsing more enjoyable.
OPERA lets you zoom in/out on a page, for me that's the greatest thing invented since the sliced bread. It's really nice for the eyes when reading lots of BBS messages or long articles, or looking at large size p*rn images. If Firdbird has zoom feature, I might try it.
Yes, you can zoom -- the browser has text-zooming built-in, and there are some extensions that add more/other zooming features.
Vengeance, You converted another. After using IE for years and finally switched to Firebird. I have been using it for the past two days or so, without any problems. Its convient and seems a good deal quicker, especially when going back pages.
Glad to see it Kilgore Trout!! From what I've seen, all it takes is someone using it for a few hours and there's no going back. I'm happy to see that more people are trying it. Here's the evidence -- if you haven't tried it yet, give it a whirl. You won't be disappointed.
Things Firebird can do, OPERA does it better and in a more friendly way. Basically I see Firebird trying to catch up to OPERA. But then of course, you have to pay for the full version of OPERA to remove the banner add.
I hope that you, and all the others here, realize that that is NOT Miscrosoft's site: that the site was hacked and spoofed. The url says msie.microsoft.com, but that's a spoofed url, made by a hacker who is exploiting an IE flaw. I just want y'all to know that, so that you realize that that's NOT a microsoft site - it's a fake, spoofed site created by a hacker. If you guys don't understand, or want more info on this, let me know. -- droxford
droxford -- that was kind of the point of my quoting the /. post: Quote: If you're running Internet Explorer, you can upgrade to Mozilla 1.6 here [wired.net.nz] (If you're not running IE, you won't see anything. My redirect exploits the ^A bug and uses IE conditional comments to make it look like an official MS page for downloading Mozilla)
I use Mozilla, and I've never had a single problem with it. It's been great. Until yesterday. I lost every bookmark I had. Every one. Have no idea what happened, where they went, or why. Just fired up the browser and they were gone. If any Mozilla user has any idea, I'd love to hear it. That said, Mozilla is still my browser of choice. The less I use Microsoft, the better.
Look in your profiles directory -- are you on Windows XP, 2000 or 98,95,ME? What probably happened is it created a new profile (for some unknown reason). The old one should still be there -- the bookmarks will be in an html file called "bookmarks.html". Just copy it from one profile to the other, and you should be fine.
Vengeance, thanks for the quick response. I tried it, but didn't have any luck. Only one profile, and there's no sign of bookmarks.html anywhere (except the one that's blank). I guess it took a vacation into the ethos. Oh, well. I needed to refresh my bookmarks anyway. Thanks, again.
