"Golden State trade rumor I just got off the phone with Jason Quick, who confirmed he is investigating a trade rumor involving the Blazers and Warriors. Quick reported on Sports Radio 910 The Fan last night the principal players involved could be Rasheed Wallace, Nick Van Exel and Erick Dampier. He'll have more on this rumor today at 1pm when he chats live with us. If you have a question about this trade or anything else related to the Blazers, send it here and we'll ask it for you."
WOW! If that ends up haveing any truth to it, then I guess I was wrong when I said Cat and Cato would never get RW.
I'd say it. He is, too. Why NVE? He duplicates Damon, carries baggage but is tradable, but is not free for another year. I find this one difficult to believe, but it is a credible source. I tried to listen to the audio but failed. If anyone efforts, and succeeds, please add to this Thread.
I guess I was wrong. I checked out ED's stats and he's a nice rebounder and is having a good season offensively. But considering the age..... Mobley > NVE.
Hmm, with no Nick the Quick, GS is going to need a PG. Houston trades: PG Steve Francis (16.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 5.9 apg in 39.6 minutes) Houston receives: PG Avery Johnson (3.8 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 1.6 apg in 11.1 minutes) SF Mike Dunleavy (12.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.9 apg in 31.9 minutes) PF Troy Murphy (7.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 0.6 apg in 20.6 minutes) Change in team outlook: +7.3 ppg, +7.6 rpg, and -0.8 apg. Golden State trades: PG Nick Van Exel (13.4 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.9 apg in 34.1 minutes) C Erick Dampier (11.9 ppg, 11.6 rpg, 0.7 apg in 32.2 minutes) PG Avery Johnson (3.8 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 1.6 apg in 11.1 minutes) SF Mike Dunleavy (12.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.9 apg in 31.9 minutes) PF Troy Murphy (7.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 0.6 apg in 20.6 minutes) Golden State receives: PG Steve Francis (16.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 5.9 apg in 45 games) SF Rasheed Wallace (17.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.6 apg in 39 games) SF Qyntel Woods (4.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.0 apg in 38 games) SF Travis Outlaw (0.5 ppg, 0.3 rpg, 0.2 apg in 6 games) C Vladimir Stepania (2.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 38 games) Change in team outlook: -7.6 ppg, -8.7 rpg, and -1.4 apg. Portland trades: SF Rasheed Wallace (17.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.6 apg in 38.0 minutes) SF Qyntel Woods (4.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.0 apg in 13.7 minutes) SF Travis Outlaw (0.5 ppg, 0.3 rpg, 0.2 apg in 1.5 minutes) C Vladimir Stepania (2.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 10.8 minutes) Portland receives: PG Nick Van Exel (13.4 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.9 apg in 30 games) C Erick Dampier (11.9 ppg, 11.6 rpg, 0.7 apg in 44 games) Change in team outlook: +0.3 ppg, +1.1 rpg, and +2.2 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED
He just basicly just said that Warriors and Blazers have had talks but Portland GM John Nash denies it. He said with emergence of Darius Miles trading Sheed is easier and blazers need to get a backup point guard.
Nope, totally serious. We would have to go get a starting PG, of course. We could either sign one in Free Agency, or trade for one using Taylor or Cato as bait (since we would have a new starter at PF), or we could start Jim Jackson at the point, with MDJr as our new starting SF. Our team improves in size, shooting, rebounding, and passing. What's not to like?
Dampier is much better than Cato. Cat is slightly better than Nick the quick, but we saw what Nick could do in big games last year. He's a playa.
I dont see why GS does this trade. Wallace would never re-sign with them. And why would GS give up on Dampier? It makes solid sense for Portland in getting Dampier but I dont see why GS would do it. After the season most likely GS would be without Dampier, NVE and Wallace much like what happened with the Bucks and Payton.
The more I think about it for GS....the only way they would make this deal is for cap reasons. Basically they would be knocking Dampier and NVE off of their cap. I dont know the cap numbers, does that get them really under the cap? Can they then make a play for Kobe? Other than cap savings I dont see why they do this deal?
I guess we could throw in some more players, but I don't think the rest of the league realizes how bad Steve really is.
ESPN Insider is all over this rumored deal today. The way they talk about it it could happen, but some of their logic seems faulty. Certainly, if deal goes as described, 'sheed will be 'out there' this summer because he would not be resigned by Warriors. Is that good or bad for Rox?
I like the trade. It would benefit Francis to leave JVG system. He would be a focal point in GS's offense and put up numbers closer to his career averages and be happy. MDJr is a great passer and rebouder at the SF position. I don't think JJ would run the point any worse than SF has this season. We could sign a true PG in the offseason. And Murphy would be great at PF. He and Motay would be a good 1-2 punch.
