James Harden's streak of at least 35 points and 5 assists is at 7 games and counting! The MVP is breaking records on a nightly basis! http://bkref.com/tiny/rVhtV
That's not the real list. Harden is tied with Oscar Robertson at 7. Now you jinx him setting the 35/5 "record" on Monday.
Harden is averaging 33 points per game this year. Kobe Bryant in 2006 was the last player to score like this but he wasn’t passing the ball that year.
He would never put up enough shots to get 79. Harden has only attempted 30 or more shot 13 times in his career. Kobe took 46 shots to get 81 points.
If he gets 10 assists to go with it, why not. Let’s say he gets hot hot super hot and hits 11 threes. That’s 33 points. Let’s say he gets 15 FTs and makes 14 of them. That leaves 32 points from inside the line for him to get. I’m not sure he can do that and dish the ball.. which he loves doing from the bottom of his soul. The points don’t bother me, but 16 made two pointers seems in Harden like. It would probably take about 25 attempts on a good day to get there. He’s just not the 40 attempt type of player.
What a pleasure to have this dude on our team, keep doing your thang jim and you'll get that mvp again
Here is he statline from his 60 point game. He took 30 shots and was fairly efficient making 14/16 from within the arc and only missing 1 free throw. He literally would have to make all his 3's to get to 80. I just don't see him taking the number of shots to get to 80. Let's say he hits 11 threes that game. That's 78 points. So I guess it's possible, but it's also a near perfect game to go 14/16 - 17/18 - 11/14 from three. Hitting 84% of your shots for a game at volume is ridiculous. Of all the players that have ever scored at least 70, only two of them took less than 40 shots. And they hit 26 and 27 FTs to get there. It might have even been in the era where you had 3 FTs to make 2. Harden ain't getting 27 FTs in a game ever. The entire universe would complain about it being unfair. Edit: Karl Malone is the only player to ever reach 60 without taking at least 30 shots but even he only shot 81% that game. He needed 19 made FTs to get to 61. The most attempts Harden's had in a game is 35. He's done that twice, but to get to 79 points off of 35 shots would be tough. He'd need ref love, luck, and a defense designed to force his shots.
He'll never get up 25 (this would break Klay Thompson's record of 24 three attempts) because he gets fouled all the time on them. A foul on a three renders that NOT an attempt unless you make the shot. He's taken 19 twice and I guess he could take more, but I don't see that many shots being available to him unless the defense just doesn't show up at all and leaves no one open for James to pass to.
Can’t wait to watch him do this during the playoffs this season. James is solidifying his spot among the greats.
