Tried the Oculus Rift demo at best buy and Im not sold on it yet. $600+ $1100 for the computer, no thanks. I did enjoy it but the graphics weren't all there yet. I will settle for the Gear Vr for right now and maybe get the PS VR.
If you're not the type to have a relatively newer gaming PC then VR is too early adopter for you. I have both Vive and Rift and I enjoy them a lot but it's not a mass product yet by any means.
Probably built it himself. Just gotta have a current enough GPU (these new pascals are incredible), and processor etc. Like he said, if you don't already have a computer capable of running the latest games / simulators etc.....it's going to be a BIG investment to try and jump into VR. I have an I7 5820, 970 GTX ftw+, 16gb DDR4 system.
I am going to do the HTC Vive and dedicate a new room to it. Probably going to nab a GTX 1080 while I am at it.
I have an i7-4790k@4.00Ghz CPU. 32 GB of RAM. My GPU is Nvidia 780Ti. Windows 10. It runs most VR games with no issues. Some I have to run at lower graphics settings. I'll upgrade to a 1080 or something soon.
OK, so, we support the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive - have a promotion with major Youtubers this month playing our game, and we also are partnering with OSVR. We have added a Cockpit to help with some people getting nausea but our game is more the fast paced thrill ride and less the cutesy stylized artsy type where you are in a slow paced office environment pouring coffee. So, if you have an iron will give ours a try, if you are a wuss, don't bother. DD
Yeah, I really want a 1080/1070 but still hard to find in stock. But lately... I've been playing old games on my setup, lol... Old pc games, even some MAME ****, I'm thinking .. "I should utilize this setup for some actual games w/ graphics", but have just been on a binge lately... Even played some regular Nintendo (just found my original one that I had packed up). I also still want to get VR.., but I'm thinking the whole Nintendo thing is just a way to delay my Steam backlog along with VR.. damn nostalgia.
stock for 1070 seems to be getting better. I just bought a MSI 1070 for $409 from B&H. I know the price will come down in the future but my PNY 970 spontaneously failed last week.
Went to an Zotac VR Go backpack demonstration today and played with HTC Vive for the firs time. That combo is honestly really fun. The VR Go is $1999, though. Screwing around in Tilt Brush was the greatest, better than any of the VR games I saw. Being a teacher, I think Tilt Brush would be an interesting and useful classroom tool, too. I don't have a VR-ready computer right now (got a Surface Pro 4 + a desktop from 6 years ago running GTX 750i), so I'll need to shop for a new computer in addition to the Vive if I want to use it. Would a laptop like this one work? Am I better off with any other product? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...re=msi_1060_laptop-_-9SIA65C50R5781-_-Product i6-6700 1060hq, 12 GB of RAM, GTX1060 with 6 GB, 128 gb SSD + 1TB HD
MSI build quality is hit or miss.I no longer buy them for work because after a year or so they started to fail because of heat/power issues. (I have bought 4 of them) They have great specs and reasonable prices but their build quality is shoddy. You would be better of building a dedicated VR PC in a small form factor case. With a small form factor pc, you get desktop-grade components in something not much later than a PS4. Your Surface 4 should be able to handle your mobile computing needs for at least another 2 years if not more. Just my two cents.
I ended up ordering this for an entry level VR capable machine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01NBL8BER/ref=ya_st_dp_summary Don't have the time or patience to build my own for now and I can always upgrade this one as the case and parts are all off the shelf. In fact, I have an extra SSD sitting around so this is the first thing to be added to it. We will see when Amazon ships this thing.
I have a PSVR, it's been collecting dust for a few months. Picked up Beat Saber and that got me back on, it's pretty damn good. We've come a long way from the virtual boy. I tell people how cool it is but until you're in the headset you can't believe it. I have no doubt VR will become a standard part of gaming eventually, I just hope it doesn't take too long. The overall support just isn't there yet due to the small consumer base, and there are a lot of roadblocks to wide usage (prohibitve pricing and initial VR sickness) When you play Skyrim VR ( not built for VR and dated, but it proves that massive games are viable in VR), Farpoint, Resident Evil, and Beat Saber, you can see the potential in the medium. Somebody is gonna put the pieces together and make a transcendent title. Hopefully Sony maintains support in the next gen. There's no way they are making a profit on this, but they are far and away the biggest gateway to the masses right now in the VR market. As is the PSVR setup is really hindered by the lack of an analog stick on the moves. The tracking isn't spectacular either, but it's usually not a big issue. I don't have a PC built for high end gaming, so the overall price tag for Vive/Oculus and a proper rig was just too high. Frankly unless you have some disposable income, VR isn't a good investment right now, but I want it to grow so badly.
I'm holding out on VR until the spring, when the Oculus Quest comes out. I'm not yet sure if it's going to be powerful enough. We'll see.
Bought a Playstation VR on boxing day. I had already tried it before (London Heist) and I found it amazing. So I got this VR with GT Sport and another game. The immersion is great BUT I am highly disappointed as I get dizzy playing it and get headaches. I played it for 1.5 hours and haven’t played it since. I drank a beer before and had a joint too, maybe that didn’t help. Seriously considering taking it back, any advice anyone?
