    WSJ criticizes WaPo.

"The point isn’t to feel sorry for Mr. Trump, whose rhetorical attacks on the press have often been contemptible. The point is that such gratuitously negative reporting undermines the credibility of the press without Mr. Trump having to say a word."

How one publication reported Trump’s trip to see troops in Iraq.

President Trump and his wife Melania made a surprise visit to American soldiers in Iraq on Wednesday, and you would think that would be a straightforward event to write up. Report how and when he arrived, whom he visited, and what he and some of the soldiers said. These holiday trips have become a ritual for all Presidents, and the troops appreciate the Commander in Chief’s display of support.

Yet here are the first two paragraphs of the news dispatch on the Trump visit that the Washington Post published on its website Wednesday afternoon, Washington time:

“President Trump touched down Wednesday in Iraq in his first visit to a conflict zone as commander in chief, a week after announcing a victory over the Islamic State that his own Pentagon and State Department days earlier said remained incomplete.

“The president’s visit to Al Asad Air Base west of Baghdad, which was shrouded in secrecy, follows months of public pressure for him to spend time with troops deployed to conflicts in the Middle East and punctuates the biggest week of turmoil the Pentagon has faced during his presidency.”

We’ll admit we stopped reading there, so perhaps there was actual news later in the story. But can anyone reading those opening two sentences wonder why millions of Americans believe Donald Trump when he tells them that he can’t get a fair shake from the press?

These reporters can’t even begin a news account of a presidential visit to a military base without working in a compilation of Mr. Trump’s controversies, contradictions, and failings.

The point isn’t to feel sorry for Mr. Trump, whose rhetorical attacks on the press have often been contemptible. The point is that such gratuitously negative reporting undermines the credibility of the press without Mr. Trump having to say a word.

Kind of a piss poor editorial. Reporting on the president's whereabouts, schedule, and the way he has dealt with the troops he is supposed to command are all "actual news".

It is especially true when the President has been more absent from the troops than other recent presidents.

WSJ editorial staff gotta carry that water. Curious what their opinion of trump outright lying (and repeating a fact-checked lie) about military pay to the troops. No biggie? The press running amuck?

Trump and the press are both at fault for the public's mistrust in the press as an institution. Trump and the press are going to continue attacking each other in a never-ending vicious cycle.

oh no! a fashion blogger commented on melanias footwear!

can i assume you were equally triggered when actual legitimate news commentators freaked out over obama wearing a tan suit? fox news said it proved he was a "marxist" and that it made him look like a wimp. lou dobbs said he only wore a tan suit to boost his poll numbers.

at least she isnt wearing that stupid jacket that said "i dont care...do you?"

on that note, could you imagine the outrage from right-wingers if michelle obama had worn that stupid jacket anywhere, let alone going to a child detention center?

I don't care what Mrs. Trump wears. I don't really care what Mr. Trump wears.

I am concerned that Mr. Trump is a consistent liar, to such an extent that it has likely done damage to the office.

I am also more than a little concerned that no one wants to work for Mr. Trump..... and most of all, I am gravely concerned that he has surrounded himself with criminals and has pushed away everyone qualified that isn't under criminal investigation.

Most of all, I am concerned that he has shown that he is not qualified or capable of being a successful President.

Looking up at the night sky, it is entirely understandable that unsophisticated ancient men thought the Earth was stationary beneath his feet while the entirety of the heavens spun above him.

did you get as upset over a trump supporting republican elected official saying michelle obama was an "ape in heels" as you did about a yahoo fashion writer saying they dont like melanias boots?

all this person did was critique her fashion choice - the trump supporting elected official said the shoes michelle was wearing made her look like an ape. who is deranged again?
