Daryl Morey is the reigning and defending Executive of the Year, an award voted on by his peers. He's widely respected and often imitated. The league has thwarted his trades and changed rules to catch him, but he's always one step ahead (and one move away). He's the man from tomorrow. Morey can't be stopped.

Who are the usual suspects? Are we all just going to ignore OP's usual suspects?

It probably has more to do with the fact that we have the most active GM in the league and NBA trades are really hard to pull off.

In the real world, these guys aren’t bored in their offices playing on ESPN’s Trade Machine looking for something to do.

I think there's some sort of truth in other GM's having a reasonable amount of reluctance in being involved with any trades with Morey but I think the media has a huge part in that over being actually blacklisted.

No GM would make a trade unless they agreed to the terms, if they make a mistake they did so hoping to get the better end of the deal.

Morey is probably always testing waters in the trade market, probably in an attempt to hide his major moves.

Not much we can do on the trade market unless we can get a team to find value in Knight and a few other players.

That recent Paul extension is going to haunt us, sooner rather than later...

Perhaps, but let's review what Morey was having to consider after having CP last year:
    - HISTORIC franchise records
    - Team set NBA records
    - BEST regular season record in the NBA (ahead of one what is considered to be perhaps the greatest team of all time?)
    - AMAZING win/loss record when James, CP and Capela played (90% winning percentage?)
    - Had 'greatest team of all time' on the ropes after 5 games in WCF (hamstring and refs took care of the rest)

Who as GM would risk letting CP walk after all of this success?
You do what it takes to keep the best combo that ever happened to the Rockets intact
So, if Chris walked and we were sinking like a lead weight (like the beginning of the season)
how much would everyone be crying that Morey is an IDIOT for letting CP go and destroying our once great team?
Don't think that never crossed his mind. CP had all of the bargaining power in the world after last season didn't he?

Damned if you DO, and damned if you DON'T

This **** is so stupid, and low-brow. Other GMs don't think of Morey as this all-knowing, evil genius that they avoid. You don't become 1 of 30 GMs in the world by thinking that your colleague is that much superior to you that you refuse to do business with him. This is typical moronic shock jock radio DJ bullshit.

Most trades in natural are made to swindle the other person. Not all but most. I dont wanna trade a guy thats worth the same as the guy i already have. But i guess picks ate the sweetener

I think it is some truth. Ok lets take football. You think its people lining up to do business with new england. You think when a player leaves new england, people are like we should pick that guy up..nope. its understood when pats let u guy bill knows something we dont.

I think thats how the nba feels about morey

I can’t tell if the people arguing DM gave up too much to get CP3 are referring to the original trade or the contract extension.

Because only one of those arguments possibly contains fair points and deserves to be taken seriously.

One of the 48 laws of power: don't outshine your master. In his case, the other GMs are in control over whether or not Morey makes a trade. He outsmarts other GM's, and the world knows.

I think that deal shows how bad Tilfart wanted out of the tax …. that's really the only reason it was done. Morey was very high on Melton and gave him up to get rid of Ryno's unmovable contract for a lesser unmovable contract. That guy could have really helped us this year and beyond …. Luxury tax , not so much.

Ryno's $20m expiring contract would be nice to have in the coming offseason or leading up to next years trade deadline …. It could facilitate bringing back just about any contract in the league and would have been gold with picks attached , maybe you eat a teams bad contract plus a quality young player …. The split of the total expiring amount with Chriss expiring this season (they didn't pick up his option) and BK next …. doesn't appeal to me.

I would blacklist Morey as well if he was trying to sell me Ryan Anderson, Brandon Knight, Marques Chriss whatever....

Everything we gave up in the Chris Paul trade besides the pick was necessary to make the numbers work in the trade.

No! But like Aigne and the Devil I am sure most GMs think twice to 5 times before agreeing upon a deal with them.
