Agreed, this is inhumane, they should lock up his parents for child abuse just as they should lock up any parents caught putting their children in danger by trying to sneak them across the border. If you get enough of them, force them to build the border wall to discourage other awful people from deciding to put their children in danger. You get free labor and fewer awful people harm their children.

We don’t do things like that, however you are right that it would provide cheap labor and discourage others from attempting to cross illegally. We good go full Vlad Tepes and impale them on stakes outside the wall as a warning. We would likely see illegal immigration at the Souther border drop greatly. ISIS did something similar a few years ago to great success but in general the West avoids it the last 150 years or so.

 

Prisoners are not slaves.... they broke the law entering illegally and should be put to work. It is a jobs training program as well.

I love people blaming the US after the parents are ultimately responsible. What kind of world do you live in inside your head where people no longer have individual choices and responsibiliities and everything is up to the govt.? Do you all have parental issues from childhood?

 

Pikes it is... we can line the wall with impaled illegal immigrants. It will likely keep others from openly trying to enter the country. Hell it may even motivate some already in the country to leave.

 

Would you support a path to citizenship for migrants that worked building the wall? But instead of making them prisoners we have them a livable wage, which would cost us less than the cost of an inmate?

 

Not a bad idea. If they did their time I do not see why they couldnt apply for citizen ship and be given preference for their efforts in a point system like canada. But then we would have a flood of willing builders breaking the law. It would be tricky. Their learned building skills would help with the housing labor shortage.

The are plenty of ways to deal with this. Just needs funding and support. Impaling isn't needed nor would it be ethical. I am not really a wall supporter actually or slats. I prefer technological route with drone monitoring and non lethal forces to deter entry. I also believe anyone caught illegally should be banned from a route for citizenship in most cases. Furthermore, the wall is costly and bad for the environment. Really bad for animal migration actually. I am far more hippy than most of you realize, but I am more of the original hippy type which is strongly anti violence and war, and very much libertarian in regards to personal freedoms (within the scope of our nation and its founding principles) This often comes into conflict with the authoritarian left on this forum.

That said, there are clear advantages to a slat wall, which some would like to ignore. ONE being it does slow violators down and it can be used to stop large swarms of migrants from crossing at once in an attempt to overwhelm defenses. I would be more infavor of walling sections that are closer to urban areas and leaving desert open with monitoring stations/literal forts instead.

I know plenty about walls from years of playing AOE 2... just saying
