    Ideas, suggestions are welcome

im trying to plan a trip with my girlfriend for my spring break in march, we have about 11 days. Ive been trying to plan a cruise in the bahamas or carribean, but we waited too long and they are starting to get pricy. Any suggestions on where else to look for good prices on cruises? I had a pretty nice trip in london 2 years ago but this year id rather go somewhere warm.

we could always scrap the cruise idea and just go somewhere nice, where have some of you had a nice spring break?

Bahamas was, by far, the best break I had. It was insanely expensive though.

Check on Ebay for some deals - I actually just got a really cheap flight to Vegas by bidding on some Southwest Airline vouchers. Just a thought!

I don't know what counts as "somewhere nice"...

I've had lots of interesting spring breaks, but they didn't involve international travel (and usually didn't even involve flying). The key is to find something affordable that is not going to be too crowded with other people on their spring breaks. And not too cold. Arizona and New Mexico are good. Hot Springs (Arkansas) was fun for a short spring break.

I think I'm going to South Padre Island...but then again, I live only 20 minutes away :D ...that makes it about an hour and a half trip during spring break...

Oaklawn Park recently opened for this years racing season. If you have never been to a horse track before this is a nice place to spend your money on Spring Break.

I hear that Jamaica is just as nice as the major tourists spots like Cancun and the Bahamas...but not near as expensive.

I cant speak from direct experience since I havent been able to take more than a long weekend vacation in over 20 years..:(
but my sister and her family take a week+ vacation every year...and they raved about how nice Jamaica was...I know it couldnt have been expensive since my BIL is a cheap bastig..

I always went to Durango for skiing.

If you're into baseball at all, go to Tucson. It's relatively cheap, you'll be able to swim by then, and several Cactus League teams will be in town. Also, lots of National Park/Forest land close by and Tucson has many good places to eat and drink.

(I'm planning a family camping trip to the Chiricahua Mountains and environs in the Southeastern corner of AZ for early April. We plan on hitting a number of places where Cochise hung out... assuming, of course, that fire season holds off until late-April/early May.)

I remember sleeping on the beach in South Padre - I woke up and had no idea where my hotel was. I barely made it back for our gig that night.....

    :D

that's horrible. I don't know how you stand it. (what kind of job makes you do that?)

I think I would go crazy if I wasn't able to at least take two long road trips a year (one of which is the Christmas thing). These days we usually take at least three a year (not counting four-day weekends... no telling how many of those there are). The academic schedule will tell me when I can take these breaks. On the other hand, the academic salary will limit what I can do (driving, motel 6's, and national and state parks for "entertainment").

Life is too short to be stuck in one place.

Went to Tucson for spring breaks 2001 and 2003 - nice. You can go hiking/ driving up in the mountains (may still be a little snowy, and unfortunately a lot of the stuff on Mount Lemmon - was that it? - burned last year). At least it's not fire season yet. South of town are some very nice places - Patagonia Lake, and several other recreation sites.

We also went by the Chiricahuas - this was in mid-March and it was a bit icy in parts. (Note of advice: don't drive on any roads that aren't supposed to be open for the summer yet, even if there isn't a gate down. That was a scary experience.) April should be better.

It's not as bad as it sounds..
I must admit that after saying that, I remembered that last year we did manage to get 5 days off to go to Chicago to attend our son's wedding..but that is it.

For too many years, I have been working jobs that either didnt have benefits..or were technically "part-time" jobs even tho I worked 40+ a week..
It's one of the disadvantages to being in the working class.

Thats one of the reasons why I went back to school to hopefully get into a field that has all the benefits like insurance and vacation/sick time.

if i have any money left over from mardi gras, maybe tahoe (yeah right...) or probably padre.

if the folks are feeling generous though, vegas could be the spot.

Panama City Beach, FL- lots of northern college chicks and it is cheap compared to, say, the Bahamas or Cancun.
That place is the only way to fly.

I'm going on a cruise this spring break that leaves out of Galveston. We'll be stopping at Cozumel and one other place I think.

I went to Galveston for Spring Break last year. Went and did the aquarium thing and stuff. Of course, I live in Dallas, so it was a bigger trip for me than it would be for a lot of you.

This year, we're going to Los Angeles, but it's kind of a working vacation for me.
