OK, I was about to go into upchuck mode when I saw the title, but since the tape was made when he was 38, that's a LITTLE more bearable, depending on how hot the chick is.
I was going to post this yesterday because they were talking about it on Rich and Charlies show but I didn't have an article to post. Dr. J has completely ruined his image as a class athlete.
pgabriel, I agree. I thought Dr. J was humble and not like your average player that exists in the NBA now.
Guys, it was 15 years ago. I am more disappointed that he has made little effort to be a part of his daughter's life (the tennis player whose last name is Stevenson).
Psh. Big deal. Who actually cares about this stuff? People have sex all the damn time except sometimes there's a camera and some idiot gets a copy. Some people are down with that. I don't look down on anyone when their personal lives are exploited by the media. Is she at least hot?
Because of what? Because he had sex with a another women? Maybe his wife was an absolute nightmare. Come on. I also do not agree on being unhonest, but none of us knows the reasons why he did it. It's so typical american. Showing no nipple on tv but having the most pornstores and p*rn industry. I bet even a guy who judges this on tv is just coming from a blow-job round the corner.
He was separated from his wife. It was consensual sex. I don't care if Pam, Paris and Julius had sex together and taped it. Good for them.
Because of this. Because he didn't claim his own daughter till she won a tennis tournament. This isn't the only disgrace for Dr. J.
i'm with you pgabriel...the daughter thing is really disappointing. can you imagine that little girl growing up and now knowing that her own father denied her over and over again? how sad is that?? what scars does she carry with her because of that?
Consistent with the idea that his wife is an absolute nightmare, not only did she hold onto the tape for 15 years (can you say "ammunition"? I knew you could.), but she also chose to release the tape to the newspapers instead of just using it as evidence in court. That's nothing but a mean-spirited attempt to smear his image. His daughter, I cannot comment on, since I don't know the story. If what pgabriel says is true though, that is a much bigger disgrace and reflection of his character than some stupid sex tape.
OK, this I did not know. But hey, if they put us in the spotlight and watch every move we make, man I would end up in the gutter or in total stardom. lucky we!
Correct, that's it. But will it smear his image. For some people of course, for some maybe, for a lot I guess not. For me not. But if the daughter thing is for sure - then there is a crack in the window of course. But I do not know the complete (true) story to it.
You know what I'll never understand? When a rock star or actor participates in what some consider decadent the public reaction is generally "no big deal" unless it involves the same sex. We practically expect that kind of behavior from them. But then when a professional athlete, who is also subjected to the same plight of money, fame, women, drugs, etc etc, participates in the exact same behavior we condemn them for it? It's a double standard. These same people who condemn these athletes like Wilt, Kobe, Dr. J, etc etc are generally also buying records by artists who are known drug addicts and are banging groupies left and right . They also pay to see movies starring people like Hugh Grant. But Dr. J? Oh he lacks class. Why? I just don't get it. One reassuring aspect of this hypocracy is people either seem to have a short term memory when it comes to such things or they forgive them rather quickly. For example, see Magic Johnson who contracted HIV cheating on his wife and was reported to have three groupies at a time waiting for him after games before he hit the shower. Or how about Michael Jordan? It came out a few years ago that he had an ongoing affair that lasted the bulk of his marriage, but after the initial shock, you never hear mention of it anymore. I personally don't care. The only thing that's silly to me is video taping it. I mean, I'd be afraid of something like that being viewed by strangers and I'm not a celebrity. But hell, different strokes for different folks!
Who said these other guys didn't lack class. I think matthew perry, robert downey jr. and other catch a lot of flack for their well publicized drug abuse. The other point is that Paris Hilton or Pamela Anderson didn't have the reputations that Dr. J had when their sex tapes came out. I think we can all agree that Dr. J was viewed as an upstanding citizen and a role model for future NBA players. Its shocking, and if you don't think it is, then you really don't know the reputation Dr. J had before all this bad press came out.
