Great article. While what bud has been doing in Milwaukee has been great, I think sooner or later we will eclipse them in this morey+ rating. Giannis is incredible and incredibly unique. He is extremely difficult to deal with, but he can be gameplanned. Harden, and thus the Rockets, still hold the upper hand because he is the triple threat from all 3 holy grail efficiency spots; 3s, frees and layups/dunks. Giannis is still only a dual threat. We will see giannis run into the problems Harden did when he was leading a team alone in the playoffs. He will be targeted in schemes and his team will be forced to win. We learned after years of pain and that's why cp3 has been so vital and why I still think Houston holds the edge and will ultimately take the reigns on this Morey+ line.
This gets back to Hinkie's resignation letter that I am sure we have all read. You can read Morey throughout it. Their core philosophy wasn't finding a competitive advantage, it was finding a competitive advantage that would be so painful to acquire and nearly impossible to replicate.
Yup Morey always knew people would eventually catch on to the math advantage. Rockets could still be out front. They still brute force the math. The problem is the roster is not stocked with enough players to make the math work more efficiently. But they have Harden to augment everything. Teams not only caught up to the Rockets offensively, they game planned the switching defense and the Rockets got caught flat footed on that one.
And defense. If teams can replicate our offense, we gotta be slightly better on defense to gain that competitive edge. Except we declined defensively. And now we're stuck...
Exactly. For some reason, many people seem to think Morey hatched the Threes|Frees|Layups concept as his only idea, and now that the league is catching up, he's outlived his use to us. Murray will do what he does and uncover some other statistical advantage we can exploit.
Didn't he say something in the last year or two to the effect that putting the players in charge (but first getting smart ones) was the next thing? Might have been around the time of the CP trade. I can't remember. Does anyone else? If so, the next twist will be acquiring those playmakers before their hamstrings are done.

Yes but i also think in the playoff healthy we have the advantage since we have 2 elite playmakers n a lob threat. Just wish we had more lenth
