Welch's Grape Juice says it takes 550 grapes to make my $3.50 64oz bottle, how do they make money?

Subsidies. Automation. Or maybe they're lying about the numbers and use artificial flavors or cheaper juices.

Who said anything about it being healthy? He's asking how they make money.

Welch's is actually a farmer-owned co-op consisting of over 900 concord grape farms.

Here's the list of ingredients for their 100% juice: Grape Juice From Concentrate (Filtered Water, Grape Juice Concentrate), Grape Juice, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), No Artificial Flavors or Colors Added.

@Sajan I don't drink the stuff (my grape juice comes in fermented form), just stating facts.

Grape juice grapes aren't usually the same as table grapes. Concord grapes are generally a little bit smaller than your typical table grapes. Their skin is also thicker and seeded.

Industrial processing of grapes also most likely crushes the grapes without washing. They just crush everything near the vineyard (or gets shipped from the vineyard in giant trucks), twigs and bugs and all. Then the juice gets filtered and sanitized. Once it's bottled, the transportation cost is small compared to the delicate process of shipping table grapes.

He wouldn't be so concerned about Welch's making money if he wasn't buying it to begin with. :)

Just a single glass of orange juice takes about 4 medium oranges..and u get none of the fiber or other nutrients.
Juice gets a pass and sodas get punished but at the end of the day...what's the difference? Some vitamin C?

I'm not advocating drinking juice, I don't really do it. I'm just saying, he had a question that he wanted to be answered. Sometimes people are just curious good sir.

They use people as fertilizer for their grapes to keep costs down. Ever seen the B film "Motel Hell"? They model after that. And, they have a jerky business on the side that they don't tell people about using another company as a front.

This post proves my long-standing theory that if you ask the most random question about something as obscure as the difference between concord grapes and table grapes....you will eventually get an intelligent answer from an expert on this bbs.

    Gotta love CF.
