Yep that's one of the worst parts it's the same lie over and over it's gotten old.

 

Fair enough. I, however, do not see placing limits on rights as necessarily "authoritarian", we do it with water for instance, amongst a myriad of other things.

But my original point was, as we've discussed before, that if you want to curtail gun violence then you start by banning handguns.

 

Yeah, that's just where we differ, I don't think that just because something could be done to accomplish a goal in theory that means it's something that necessarily should be done. If the cost is shredding the 2nd amendment, the goal is not worthwhile. I see that as similar to how if you banned the right of people to vote, you could install a government full of the best possible people now that dumb people wouldn't be able to vote to prevent it....but that accomplishment in theory is still not worth the cost.

Basically IMO if it can't be accomplished within the limits of the constitution, it shouldn't be done, even if in theory it's a "good" thing.
