He knew how ****ty the Rockets were going to play.

I think Calvin personally picks his subs so that the fans will want him back even more when he's gone. You got Van Chancellor with his accent straight out of Mayberry, then there's that guy with the lisp. I bet Cynthia Cooper does the next game in which Calvin was out.

Here's something I've always wondered. When was the last time Bill Worrell missed a Rockets game? Better yet, when was the last time Gene Peterson missed a game?

    After the nuclear exchange.....

    Bill "styrofoam" Worrell

Personally, I dislike Calvin and would rather have Van as the regular.

Van Chancellor was damn unbearable... that accent has got to go.. i could barely understand what he was talking about. Then he goes on and on... not really making much sense..but buttering everything up....

It seems like Worrell has been here since the beginning of time. A few months ago I was watching ESPN Classic, and was lucky enough to catch a 1979 Rockets game (I think it was '79, could be off by a year or two). Of course this team ha both Rudy T and Calvin Murphy, and it was Murphy's career point-high game. Guess who was the announcer? Bill Worrell. I got a real kick out of hearing Worrell do play-by-play with Murphy as a player , not fellow announcer. He was saying things like, "Oh! And there's the Murph, for two."

I guess that for some of the old-timers this is common knowledge, but for me it was thrilling to hear Worrell do commentary on Calvin Murphy. Kind of a Bizzaro moment.

Wasn't Bill gone for several games while doing rehab or something? I remember Milo Hamilton calling several rockets games (which was strange).

I don't believe I've ever read anything I agreed with more than this post. He's like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard with that unbearable accent of his. Please don't put him on the tv ever again.
I can't even bear to listen to his commercials, he's so annoying. Everytime he opens his mouth I keep thinking Floyd, Goober and Aunt Bee are going to start yapping behind him.

A Rockets fan can't tolerate a Southern accent? Or did you just follow Van Gundy from the North?

I wouldn't go that far.....Van is very knowledgable about B-ball...if he don't know anything else the man knows hoops

The accent is funny to me not really annoyin.......I also think Van comes across very as a very likable guy.......in fact he comes across so nice that even if I didn't like him...I still wouldn't say it;)

Hatin on Van is like a man hatin on Santa........It just feels weird.:D

R0ckets03, I agree that listening to someone talk good about the opponents when the Rockets are getting beat, isn't very easy to listen to.

But that's why I like Chancellor. I'm glad he's on our side with the Comets, because he never sugar coats things on the sidelines. He's very candid and to-the-point.

If someone is not playing up to their potential (Comets) he'll let them know.

    Just ask Cooper! :D

As far as "buttering everying." Well, maybe on TV. But not as a coach. If you want "buttering" listen to Calvin. He can be wishy-washy sometimes...

Calvin: "That's a bad shot (shot goes in), uh no, I mean, that's a good shot...I...er um...."

Bill: "Calvin, are you losing your eye sight again?"

Calvin: "BILL! BILL! Don't start with me tonight!"
