So I thought this may be an interesting discussion topic, or even debate if you have a strong opinion. But I have heard from many places now that Christmas may have ties to shamanistic traditions involving mushrooms. Has anyone else heard this?
As a not terribly religious person I feel a little odd having to point out that Santa Claus is kind of a sideline to the origins of Christmas. Joe Rogan and his hallucinogenic drug fixation reminds me a little of: We get it Joe. You like the hallucinogens. When you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Great scene. Points to you for referencing probably one of the best scenes in that movie And I can see why you bring it up. But then you get other people who point out that there is a link. Then you stop and think about the core tenants of Christmas and suddenly it starts to make sense why people associate elves (santa is an elf btw), reindeer, the arctic, and evergreens. Especially if you look at the history of fairies and how they are associated with their own spiritual real. Well, where did this come from? What's going on with our ancestors? It even makes sense when you think about how Santa comes down the chimney, which would have been a hole in the roof of a yurt in old times, which could also gain access when people are snowed in during the darkest months of winter. The origin story that invovles mushrooms being dropped down by a shamen makes way more sense suddenly. More sense than Santa wears red and white because of coca cola and this is Jesus' birthday.
