He's not bad defensively. Not great I seem to recall a great catch against Boston. But that's probably because he misjudged the ball. LOL Kemp is an avg MLB LF and a great utility guy.
Steep price. Tough to say on that deal. Time to move on. Any thoughts on what they do next? Seems like realmuto is going to cost way too much for what Astros are willing to let go. I am hoping they stay away from Happ. Have also heard Syndergaard has arm problems not worth dealing for. Maybe Madbum? Thats going to cost a ton too. I think their plans A,B, and C may have just fallen through.
We don’t have to do anything to remain firmly in the upper echelon of AL teams. There is a lot of time between now and the trade deadline.
It hasn’t been bad because the Astros haven’t overpaid for anyone in free agency or trade. There are lots of players available in trade and free agency left that would help the Astros. The Cardinals AGAIN fixated on a single player and over paid and let the Red Sox spend 68 million on a pitcher with a history of injuries.
The reality is, they can still afford a miss in FA due to injury more than the Astros can. The luxury tax helps correct that, but the game changed once the higher payroll clubs paired their money with analytics.
They will do what they almost always do. They will set values for the guys they want and if any of them are available once the hoopla calms down they will sign them. Same on the trade market. I can tell you that the cost early on has been more than they expected. They cast a wide net and know they can fill a hole at the deadline.
Maybe. The goal is winning a championship, this team as constructed won’t beat Boston. Better improve it now. Need two bats/maybe three, need two starters
Ehh they are likely to add a Beltran level bat and a starting pitcher that at least is a #3 and possible way better. Having said that there are reasons to wait. For example the Astros can likely add a premium bat or pitcher on an expiring deal at the deadline for a fraction of the cost. Every year I hear from those associated with the club that the Astros are going to be aggressive. Almost every year fans are upset that every hole isn’t filled and every year (but one) Linnie slowly and methodically makes major additions to the team... two years he added Verlander (all be it correcting his own mistake) and last year he added a new catcher and radically improved the pen with very little prospect sacrifice. It is no secret that Luhnow tends to love his own prospects more than most. However the idea that he won’t move them is false. He moved some for Gomez and Fiers and Verlander. What he doesn’t do is gut his system because he fixated on a single player. The players traded and signed (the big names) have cost a premium because teams want to wrap them up early. Let’s see what the market is for Cruz and Brantley. Let’s see if the price from the Pirates for their pieces we like go down.
I agree wholeheartedly, and my use of it was completely out of sarcasm. Sorry, I don't know how to use the sarcasm font. Can anyone please educate me, as I use sarcasm quite a bit.
Greg Swindell played basketball with me once on an 8-ft goal in First Colony. And he was a total gentleman and a bro of the highest order. I will not see his name besmirched on this or any other forum, sir.
Nah, that would take so much of the fun out of it, would cut the opportunities to call each other "dumbasses" in at least half.
