Houston could still pull a Twofer with Arizona, packaging OF David Peralta with Greinke. Actually might make more sense than Goldy.

Pass on Greinke, he's old and even more slow throwing now.

This team can win the division next year with the roster it has today. No need to overpay for anyone, especially a one year rental. This team can be improved anytime between now and the trade deadline next summer.

Peralta is interesting. His splits (both home/road and RHP/LHP) are scary though.

Just remember that the gameplan is to make the playoff every year. We’re on course to do just that for the foreseeable future. Now isn’t the time to overpay for a 1y rental, even if it is Goldy. Not a part of the blueprint, pass, on to the next.

There are a lot of options out there. It's frustrating to watch other teams make the moves we wanted to make, but there is no reason to panic.

Or DBacks liked the St Louis offer more. If you like Weaver, DBacks got a good deal. If you don't like Weaver, St. Louis got a steal.

Thank you. Wish I had better news on Astros front but it looks like Lunhow likes his prospects a lot more than any other clubs do at this point. The team understands they have to keep the prospects now because a large bulk of the world series team wont be here anymore in 2 years time. Will need young talent to replenish and stay relevant. They won their championship and are sitting back for the long game now. May see one significant move, not likely but maybe, but the rest will be nothing of note at the time.

Thank you for the info. It's obviously not what we want to hear, but it's still nice to get some perspective on the thought process.

By the way, this is roughly the return Jeter can expect if he waits until next offseason to trade Realmuto.

What I say may not be gospel obviously, this is just the impression that I have been given by someone that is involved in the organization. They were a bit taken aback by the number of employees that moved on but thats the sign of a great staff. Just bare in mind if this offseason is a little slow things will be ok. Winning a championship isnt always about just the collective talent. Of course that matters a lot and they know that. They just view the talent they havd the system very very highly as they should. I may not agree they are as good as they think but unfortunately the powers that be get to make those decisions, not us. I believe in them, just a little pessimistic about their approach going forward.

Nook was right on the money about the Astros not overpaying if they can avoid it. Maybe Yordan Alvarez can be the answer at first base in the future, and if so, this is a smart non-move. I'm not saying he will be as good as Goldy, but I'm a fan of building a team through their farm anyway.

Eovaldi deal was almost in place earlier today. Boston is beating our offer now after hearing our number. If Astros want him it will have to be an overpay(again, not likely). May need to move on to plan C at replacement pitchers. No hometown discounts.

Still need to make a couple of moves if they want to be contenders.

It should be a very interesting offseason. I'm disappointed they didn't land Goldy.

I'm just happy Crane and the investors paid the price to bet Verlander. It would really help if Tucker/Alvarez could become above avg hitters at the MLB level
