Anyone know of any good, free video editers? All I really want to do is be able to delete sections out of already existing videos. I've never had any luck looking on download.com.
WinXP comes with a movie editor (and an update, which is supposed to be excellent, is available on Microsoft's website). Remember, it's not perfect, though. It IS free.
I have used the Windows movie maker. It isn't as good as some of the other costly programs on the market, but it will do what you are trying to do. If you are trying to just cut out parts of the movie it will work fine. If you are trying to spruce it up I would suggest going to Microsofts website and getting the updates and the pack of extras that they offer. Nothing earth shattering but there are a coupl eof good templates in there. And if you want to know just how crappy my movie making skills are just ask Chance .
Windows movie editor sucks. TMPGEnc and VirtualDub are the ones I use...I like to edit in VirtualDub and frameserve to TMPGEnc you can edit in TMPGEnc directly....but Virtualdub allows you to listen to it while you are editing...which can come in handy if you want to make sure you dont miss any audio. go here and check on a full listing of video editors and rankings from users http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools?section=8#8
Thanks to all. R2K, i downloaded Virtual Dub and have figured out how to do what I want to the .mpg files that I have. What I haven't figured out how to do is save them again as .mpg files instead of an .avi. Thanks for the help.
imovie but then again that is for Macs I used XP's and it wasnt too bad, just for removing clips and scenes it works fine
That is the weakness of VirtualDub...I hope they fix that in a future release. It wont save as a mpg.. What i do is frameserve to TMPGEnc...(Under the File menu)...Do all the editing and filters and such you want to use...then start the frameserver...when you start serving...it will ask for you to name the pointer file ina dialog box..name it what ever you want..and make sure you put a ".avi" on the end so TMPGEnc will recognize it.. Fire up TMPGEnc, and point it to the pointer that you named in the last step..set all the options in TMPGEnc..and let it go. It is kinda weird at first, but once you get the procedure down..it aint nothing.
I've used a real video editor in school. It was in high school, I used a linear editor, and an editor on mac. I never edited videos in class. I just shot videos. and played around in the hallways.
